Created in conjunction with the IMMA Narrow Gate exhibition 2021, in celebration of IMMA 30.

This image is taken from the painting made to produce the series of slides in Do You Know What You Saw? The series is based on a journey to Bayreuth in Germany as a student to see Parsifal by Richard Wagner. The swans represented were seen on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, near to the house where Wagner lived from 1866 to 1872.
 
Andrew Vickery now lives and works in Berlin. Vickery paints from memories of specific experiences and events to consider recurring themes of culture, nature, travel and human relationships. His deceptively simple paintings, shown as slides within miniature theatre constructions, create partial narratives which invite the viewer to become a protagonist in the work. Vickery has exhibited widely in Ireland, including solo exhibitions at the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin in 2004 and 2013

A new IMMA Edition has just dropped! Breda Lynch’s ‘Blue D**e’ is now available for purchase at The IMMA Shop. This new edition is created in conjunction with our current exhibition ‘The Narrow Gate of the Here-and-Now’, in celebration of IMMA’s 30th Birthday.

“There is an ambivalence about these works and who these folk are. On one level, the masked appearances may remind us of old pagan or folk customs of mask-making and wearing that were pervasive across Ireland, Europe, and elsewhere… On another level these images are about the present. These are images that have been appropriated and accumulated from fashion images distributed and circulated online…These appropriations for me are presentations of selves that explore the non-binary, genderq***r and androgyny in an emancipatory manner… These Blue D**e characters are ambivalent and ambiguous identities. Lastly, these images visualise a utopian future. Imaginings of female and q***r personalities and collectives. Cyan sci-fi phantoms of the imminent future.” – Breda Lynch, IMMA Collection artist.

The entire IMMA campus is a playground this Christmas, from our Santa experience for all the family to enjoy to The People’s Pavilion curated with performances, events and activities, to festive live music, seasonal treats at The Flying Dog café and unique gifts from the IMMA Shop. The Continental Circus Berlin returns from December with their mesmerizing new show ‘Miracles’.
All of this is enriched by artistic interventions and our major exhibition celebrating 30 years of IMMA ‘The Narrow Gate of the Here-and-Now’.
