Meet Little Mick, one of the many animals living their best lives at Hilltop Animal Sanctuary in Clare. If you know anything about me, you’ll know how much I adore animals, so when Catriona at Hilltop asked if I’d illustrate one of their residents for their 2025 calendar, obviously I couldn’t say no!

I was so happy to be given Little Mick to draw—just look at his cheeky little face!! Even better though is getting to share the calendar with absolute legends like Don Conroy and Pauline McLynn. Childhood Karla, sitting in front of Den TV, drawing with Don, would think this was the best thing ever. And she’d be absolutely right.

Between vet appointments and keeping on top of orders, I never got around to sharing how excited I was to be featured in last weekend’s Irish Independent gift guide!

They did a better job than me of mentioning my Worlds Apart card, which has been available on my website for a while now, but I’ve never got around to showing it on my socials. It’s a card and a gift in one, with a wooden fridge magnet attached to the front, to let someone you love know that you’re thinking of them from the other side of the world. It’s available in three variations: Australia, USA and Canada, but pop me a message if there’s a different country you’d like and I’ll make it for you.

Each one is made in Ireland, from FSC certified birch plywood, recycled cardstock, and packaged in a biodegradable sleeve. And if you want someone to receive one by Christmas, now is the time to order… last postal dates are December 10th for the USA and the 5th for the rest of the world.

Hi friends. It’s been a while since I’ve shared a post here, and I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. In a world that often feels heavy with sadness and uncertainty, spreading joy has always been at the heart of what I do - through the designs I create, the illustrations I pour my heart into, and the gifts that I hope bring people happiness.

But this past year, it’s been hard to feel light-hearted amidst so much suffering in the world and I’ve found it difficult to reconcile the idea of “business as usual” when so many people are enduring unimaginable hardship.

That’s why, this holiday season, I want to make a small but heartfelt contribution. From now until Christmas, 10% of every online sale at Flying Fig Studio will be donated to UNICEF to help those affected by the ongoing crisis in Palestine. UNICEF is working on the ground to provide food, medical care, and shelter to Palestinian children and families.

It’s a small gesture, but I believe that in times like these, every act of kindness can make a difference. If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift for someone you love (or a treat for yourself), know that a portion of your purchase will help those who need it most.

I never really share photos of my custom house illustrations and paper cuts in case they’re being ordered as a gift and I ruin the surprise… so here’s an old custom paper cut instead of the one that went out in the post this week.

I’m the queen of taking photos that I never post, but I must dig into the archives and start sharing more of my house illustrations soon!

Shipping out in style! These boxes of joy are on their way to one of my lovely stockists. To cut down on waste, I’ve reused old packaging but couldn’t resist adding an extra touch of magic with my animal parade illustration!

Did you know that all Flying Fig Studio packaging is 100% plastic free and recyclable? I also donate annually to the World Land Trust to help fund their incredible tree-planting initiatives. Thank you for your support and for helping to make a positive impact on our planet! 💚

This week I was absolutely over the moon to find out that Flying Fig Studio is a finalist in the Irish Made Awards 2024!! 🤗 Being nominated in the Gifts category means the world to me - this little dream of mine has come a long way and I’m so grateful for all the support that’s got me to this point! Running a business takes a lot of hard work but moments like this make it worth every early start and late finish.

I’ve been on a social media hiatus lately, but couldn’t let the Design & Crafts Council Ireland Made Local summer launch go unmentioned. I’m so thrilled that Flying Fig Studio is part of Made Local, which celebrates and promotes the best of Irish creativity, design and craftsmanship.
