“A product is never finished. There will always be a 2.0.
It’s always there, and even when you’re finished with the shape, you try new things with the same material and it will give form to different things.” (Budiman Ong, Ong Cen Kuang Founder)

The lightness and graceful movement of a capung, or dragonfly in flight, inspires the Capung piece. We transform hand-knitted metal wire into an organic sculptural lighting piece that appears delicate, fluid, and almost floating in space.

Entirely handcrafted, each piece explores the intersection between material and technique, challenging the rigid nature of metal through soft, flowing forms and transparent textures.

Bunga Kertas, Woven Light

Inspired by the delicate form of bougainvillea petals, the Bunga Kertas series transforms woven metal into airy, sculptural lighting pieces that appear light, soft, and almost weightless despite their materiality.

Whether as a standing lamp, pendant, or wall lamp, each piece softly illuminates the space while casting romantic and delicate shadows onto the walls and surrounding surfaces.

Exploring Material and Process

“People usually associate copper or metal wire with something heavy, rigid, and static. We wanted to challenge that perception by creating something light and foldable. Through the exploration of material and technique, we searched for a crossing point that could transform copper or metal wire into something entirely different,” - Budiman Ong, founder of Ong Cen Kuang.

Artisans of Ong Cen Kuang

Beyond material explorations, the form, sequence and layered detailing of each piece, are the people behind it.

With years of dedication, quiet mastery, and a deep understanding of the materials, they continue to define the identity of our work.

Akong and Amah (grandfather and grandmother in Hokkien)

A pair of lights that speak to balance; precision, structure, technique and connection. Their width can be shaped and adapted to suite space and owner’s preference; different silhouettes from same piece.

Crafted in linen, each piece takes shape through an origami inspired process. More than lighting, it is a reflection of tradition, connection, and the quiet poetry of living.

Available individually or as a pair (but would you really separate them?)

Thistle

A sculptural lighting piece that balances structure and softness through its handcrafted form.

Its name is inspired by Scotland’s national flower, a place where our founder spent his formative school years, shaping his passion for art and craft.

Each shade is constructed through a meticulous, line-by-line process. Individual strips are carefully cut, folded, and aligned by hand to form a repeating lattice.
