Curcuma is a medicinal plant that belongs to the temu-found tribe (Zingiberaceae). The distinctive aroma and color of Curcuma is a sharp smell, bitter taste and the flesh of the fruit is yellowish. Temulawak has long been known as anti-hepatotoxic, so it is widely used to treat hepatitis C. Curcuma contains active substances consisting of curcumin, curcuminoids, sesquiterpene d-kamper, Ptoluilmethylkarbinol, essential oils as well as fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
