This coming Sunday, Hong Kong people will celebrate Mother’s Day alongside Americans. Despite its history as a British territory, Hong Kong does not observe the UK Mother’s Day, which is rooted in Christian tradition and aligns with the Lunar calendar (falling on the fourth Sunday of Lent). Instead, the American celebration, established as a secular holiday on the second Sunday in May, has gained popularity in Hong Kong. This consistency is especially favorable for business operators, including retailers.

Most mothers appreciate the attention on Mother’s Day, and a bouquet of flowers remains the classic choice. Opt for an arrangement in a vessel of your preference, whether porcelain, hand-blown glass, or mirror-finish stainless steel. Give us a call or send a WhatsApp message for our curated pieces. We offer a wide selection, including many options that are not yet featured on our website.

Bobbin lace is a textile art evolved from the braiding and weaving techniques of ‘passementerie’ in the late 1400s in Italy.

The desire for adornment became so popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries across Europe, creating a great demand for the product.

Lace became a status symbol of the upper class and could be found on neck ruffs and sleeve cuffs.

One of the fascinating things about bobbin lace is how trade routes for silk and linen spread the craft across the world.

Each region developed their own style over time.

Getting Started
This craft is easier than you think, especially with all of the wonderful tools and threads available from Erica’s workshop.

Erica will hold 4 workshops in May at La Maison Rose studio on 3rd 17 th , 24 th and 31 th May from 11 am - 1 pm .

Please let Erica know if you want to join her class in May.

These stunning white flowers are known as Wallich's glory bower, bridal veil, or nodding clerodendron. Last spring, we planted them on the back balcony of the studio. They were vibrant green leaves throughout spring and summer, but gradually lost their leaves starting mid November.
For 6 to 8 weeks, they appeared dry and brown, yet we remained hopeful that they would recover and come back to life when the time was right. In early February, they began to bud and are now in full bloom. We are curious about what will happen once the blooms have fully completed.

Has anyone tasted Lapsang ? I watched this scene from Phantom Tread and was inspired. I managed to find this unusual smokey tea from Lockcha (Tai Kwun, Hollywood rd, Hong Kong ) It is so unique that I could not tell if I love or hate it at first sip . It has a very unique aroma.
Lapsang Souchong is native to northern Fujian in China. Leaves are withered, rolled , oxidized, and then dried over kindling pine wood .🪵

Now, let’s talk a little bit about our homemade vanilla cake. The recipe is excellent—it’s delicious and moist. I must say it’s a bit high in sugar, but overall, the flavors blend well together and remind me of the type of cake we grew up with. If you’re interested in the recipe, please visit our blog. I found it on a baking blog called ‘Recipes by Lina.’

A special thanks to Van De Bloom on Hollywood Road for their freshly cut flowers. Their beautiful arrangements are done by Vanessa.

If you like this oval Bernadotte vase, please don’t hesitate to reach out for more details. It’s not easy to order or find it on other e-commerce sites, as they often don’t ship to Hong Kong, and if they do, the shipping fees can be outrageous. We, along with the Georg Jensen official store, stock them.

The lovely white linen tablecloth and refreshing table runner were custom-made by New Bedford Interiors on Queen’s Road East in Hong Kong. Be sure to look out for our friend, Fiona. For many years, she has been incredibly helpful to us and several of our friends.
