Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Menβs XCO race at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. There I was, in the back row (yellow helmet) lined up against guys like Cadel Evans, Miguel Martinez, Thomas Frischknecht, Cristoph Sauser, Bart Brentjens and a few more of the best mountain bikers in the world. Mountain biking was still an emerging sport and only the second time in the Olympics. I was relatively new to competing internationally and definitely outmatched by the pros surrounding me. There were just a handful of riders in Guam for me to train with and learn from... but somehow it was enough to get me to the start line that day.
The past 20 years my bike has taken me to incredible places around the globe filled with exciting bike races, meeting amazing people on bikes and witnessing the ever-evolving bike technology.
Fast forward to today β biking in Guam has never been more popular. So many people on mountain and road bikes... families and friends discovering their new-found love for the sport. It really is spectacular!
Ride your bike.... you never know where it will take you.
