🚨🚨East African nations are accelerating efforts to formally integrate traditional medicine into public healthcare systems, following a regional forum in Nairobi where policymakers and health experts called for stronger regulation, research, and harmonized standards.

Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale urged collective commitment to ensure safe, evidence-based practices, while experts highlighted the need for scientific validation, ethical guidelines, and professional oversight.

With a new regional strategy for 2025–2034, East Africa aims to blend cultural heritage with modern healthcare to improve access, safety, and outcomes across the region.

New research in JAMA Network Open shows that staying active can significantly boost survival for cancer survivors.

Analyzing data from over 17,000 patients across seven cancer types, scientists found that exercise after diagnosis was linked to lower mortality—with oral cancer survivors seeing a 61% reduced risk and lung cancer survivors a 44% reduction.

Even patients who were inactive before diagnosis benefited from starting regular movement.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has dismissed as unsafe and unacceptable a viral video circulating on social media showing beans being preserved with a white powdery substance believed to be cement. 

The Authority said the practice depicted in the video was not part of approved Ghanaian agricultural or food preservation methods and was not recognised by any relevant regulatory body in the country. 

A statement issued by the FDA and copied to the Ghana News Agency clarified that the Plant Protection and Regulation Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture does not recommend or endorse such a preservation method.
