NAS to Partner HMG Aviation to Train EMTs in Helicopter Emergency Medical Service Operations

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) is set to collaborate with HMG Aviation to train Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) operations.

This strategic partnership aims to enhance pre-hospital emergency care delivery in Ghana by introducing specialized training in air ambulance operations. The initiative will equip selected EMTs with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to operate effectively in helicopter-based medical evacuations, particularly in hard-to-reach and time-critical emergency situations.

During a meeting held at the NAS Headquarters in Accra, Mr. Jose Reynaert, representative of HMG Aviation, engaged the Management of NAS in discussions focused on exploring modalities for integrating Helicopter Emergency Medical Services into the national emergency response framework. The deliberations highlighted the importance of rapid response capabilities, improved patient outcomes, and the role of air medical services in strengthening Ghana’s emergency healthcare system.

The proposed integration of HEMS into NAS operations is expected to significantly reduce response times for critical cases, especially in remote and underserved areas. It will also position the Service to respond more efficiently to major incidents, disasters, and inter-facility transfers requiring urgent advanced care.

The collaboration marks a progressive step in modernizing emergency medical services in Ghana and underscores NAS’s commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and the delivery of timely, lifesaving care to the public.

🚑🇬🇭 NAS SET TO TRAIN 5TH BATCH OF MILITARY EMTs (MEMTs) 🇬🇭🚑

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) is set to train the 5th batch of Military Emergency Medical Technicians (MEMTs) as part of its ongoing partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces to strengthen emergency response operations nationwide.

Since the programme began in 2015 with 75 personnel, about 400 military officers have so far been trained in emergency medical care to support lifesaving interventions within the Ghana Army.

This fifth batch will see about 60 more personnel trained by a team of seasoned emergency physicians, paramedics, and officers from the NAS Training & Development Unit.

On Tuesday, 27th January 2026, a facilitators’ meeting was held to review the academic calendar, training timetable, logistics, and resources needed for effective delivery of the programme.

The meeting was chaired by the Ag. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Dr. Inkoom-Colbelson, who, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of strong partnerships with agencies and institutions. He noted that NAS is not only about pre-hospital care and saving lives, but also about collaboration for national development.

🗓️ The training officially commences on 16th February 2026.

Together, we keep building a stronger emergency response system for Ghana. 💪🚑🇬🇭
