The story of Made by Shannon is a journey of creativity, perseverance, and growth:

1. Following my burnout and a lack of enjoyment with my fashion design course at MMU, I made the brave decision to quit university during my second year. With no clear plan, I started working in retail.

2. My creative spirit soon led me to begin making little purses and gifts from scrap vintage fabrics. I found joy in the process of making.

3. Encouraged by my growing collection of handmade products, I set up stalls at local markets to test the waters. The positive response from customers spurred me on to create even more.

4. With the desire to reach a wider audience, I opened an Etsy shop and eventually created my own website to showcase and sell my products.

5. My big break came in 2018 when I had my first stand at Top Drawer. Despite being advised to have low expectations, my hard work paid off as I secured 25 wholesale orders.

6. In 2020, I relocated to Surrey and set up my very first studio outside of my home. I continued to sell my cards and gifts to customers and retailers around the world.

7. The pandemic brought uncertainty and worries about how to keep my business afloat when all retailers closed. With the help of a mentor, I developed a plan of action to weather the storm and keep the business going.

8. My resilience and hard work paid off as my business grew exponentially in 2022, doubling in size. Today, my products can be found in over 300 retailers across the world, a testament to my dedication and passion for creating beautiful, eco-friendly products.

I adore perusing the children's section of charming boutique gift shops, admiring the exquisite wooden toys and eco-friendly gifts. However, the selection of greeting cards often leaves something to be desired with their generic, mass-produced designs.

That's why I aim to provide an alternative that not only adds elegance to any display but also offers a fun learning opportunity for children. Our unique plantable envelopes allow kids to grow beautiful flowers from the paper.

Instead of relying solely on Amazon for gifts and Tesco for greeting cards, why not explore other options?

If you often find yourself scrambling for last-minute gifts or cards, consider buying in bulk. While you're out and about in town, why not stop by your local gift shop and stock up on cards for a variety of occasions and birthdays? Additionally, keep an eye out for my stall at markets - I often have a selection of discounted second-hand cards that are still in great condition.

Pirate likes to oversee every aspect of Made by Shannon.

During our time at the Surrey studio, he sat on top of the table and fiercely vocalised his objections to any onlookers who dared to peek at our latest designs.

He's known to settle onto any available pile of fabric and occasionally walks mud through the studio resulting in a few cards having to go into seconds or the compost bin!

Our packaging:

1. We believe in being environmentally responsible, which is why we reuse packaging that our supplies arrive in and send out our wholesale orders in these boxes. While our parcels may not always be the most visually stunning, we prioritize taking care of the planet, knowing that the contents inside are always beautiful.

2. Our commitment to sustainability extends to our use of cellophane bags made from corn starch, instead of traditional plastic bags.

3. When it comes to our stickers, we ensure that they are made from paper so that they can easily be recycled without causing any environmental harm.

4. We understand the importance of reducing unnecessary packaging, which is why we offer the option for your cards to arrive without any extra wrapping when you order through our website.

5. Our eco-friendly approach continues with our use of natural materials for both our cards and packaging, which are fully compostable.

6. In our effort to be environmentally conscious, we seal our boxes with paper tape as an alternative to plastic tape. We encourage everyone to make the switch to paper tape when wrapping gifts.

I thoroughly enjoyed having a shop during the pandemic, it was a great way for me to connect with the local community (when it could be open). The shop was located next to my studio and provided a platform for me to showcase all of my products in one place, including a stunning dried flower cloud and creative workshops that were well-received by visitors.

I specialise in designing and crafting cards that I would personally adore receiving.

My passion for vintage floral fabrics has been a long-standing love affair, but over time, I've developed a newfound appreciation for minimal and considered design.
