Today is Eid al‑Adha, known as the 'Feast of the Sacrifice', and is the second of the two main festivals in Islam, the other being Eid al‑Fitr. It falls on the 10th of Dhu’l‑Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, with observances and celebrations continuing over the following three days, known as the Days of Tashreeq. On the morning of Eid al‑Adha, the Eid prayer (Salat al‑Eid) is performed, after which the ritual sacrifice of a livestock animal takes place. In Islamic tradition, this commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command. We wish everyone who celebrates Eid Mubarak, and a day filled with reflection, generosity and time shared with family and community.
