Late last night we started to hear the news that we have lost our Brother In Arms Derran Brownson.
We are devastated, the only solace we can find is that we are eternally grateful Derry was able to join us on stage a couple times just a few short months back.
Nothing will ever be the same again without our band mate and friend, fly high brother Derry. 💔

So sad to report of the passing of Wayne Charvel, founder of Charvel Guitars and one of the key figures behind the Southern California's guitar movement that reshaped rock music in the 1970s and beyond.

Before "superstrat" became part of every guitarist's vocabulary, Wayne's small repair and custom shop in Azusa, California, was where players came to push the limits of the Fender-style electric guitar. Among them was a young Eddie Van Halen, who frequented the shop while developing the ideas that would change electric guitar forever. Wayne supplied parts for the guitar that became the original Frankenstein guitar, and later built Eddie's iconic black-and-yellow "Bumblebee" guitar.

After selling Charvel Manufacturing to Grover Jackson in 1978, Wayne stepped away before the company bearing his name became a global brand. Yet his influence never disappeared. He continued building instruments under his own name, mentoring players and craftsmen alike, and remained active well into his later years despite losing his Paradise, California home and workshop in the devastating 2018 Camp Fire. Wayne Charvel leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond a logo on a headstock—his craftsmanship and vision helped define the modern performance guitar, and the impact of his work continues to resonate through generations of players and builders.

Wayne Charvel passed away on 12 July 2026 at the age of 85. His family has not publicly disclosed a cause of death.

On the bench for a full setup with a fret level but firstly my client wasn’t happy with the tone from the pickups & on inspection the wire & electronics left a lot to be desired.
The pickups are to the owners spec & the 5 way super switch was replaced with an Oak 5 way standard switch with a push pull tone pot added for coil split duties.
Ernie Ball 9-42 strings in standard tuning.

I’ve just been doing a spot of ironing.

Washburn Rover travel guitar. This guitar had a ridiculously high action due to the neck being fitted a the wrong angle. Once removed I clean up the glue joints & re-angled the neck. This isn’t a job | normally do & I needed two attempts before I was happy with the action (always learning). I used original Titebond to glue the neck back on.
