One thing that helps is to lubricate your window to make sure that it it is easy to use. I prefer to use a graphite based lubricant as that lasts years. You can use WD-40 but it tends to work less well quite quickly and needs to be reapplied much more frequently. The one downside with the graphite based lubricant is that it is black - so be careful when applying it on white window frames - but it does clean up with a simple wipe with a damp cloth and a little washing up liquid.
