How can solving a cube help your memory?

If you're wondering how it can solve memory problems if you have to constantly memorize a new algorithm then that's probably not what I'm refering to. I think that solving cube starts off with memorizing algorithms, but as you get more experience, you start to rely on muscle memory instead.

So to answer the question earlier, I think that memory comes into play when pattern recognition is required. Pattern recognition can help with problem solving, and when you notice that certain patterns start looking similar you'll be able to solve your problem much easier

I asked David, the founder of Silent Cow Cubes how he got into cubing and found it pretty interesting…

Here is his story:

My love for cubing began after watching a TV show where these magicians performed magic tricks with cubes. I was watching the show with my son.

The tricks performed by the magicians were mind-boggling and the longer I watched, the more I became curious!

“Let's get a cube” I told my son, to which he responded in the positive.

We both got into cubing and became really good at solving the cube.

I was on my way to buy a really purple suit but then bought a cube instead….

Everyone's cubing journey is different. Mine started as a teenage student who had a huge student loan to blow through and one day as I was in a shop about to buy shockingly bright purple clothes when a cube caught my attention on the shelf while I was in the queue.

I immediately grabbed it since I was always curious as to how to solve the cube and was always fascinated by it.

When I got home, I spent the rest of the day (and night) learning how to solve the cube until I could eventually solve it at sunrise the next morning!

I was hooked, I even started timing myself to see how fast I can solve it!

Fast forward 10 years later, now I just want to share the wonderful experience of solving a cube as well as the easiest methods that worked for me with as many people!

How I started selling cubes... (Bit of a funny story)

My cubing journey started on a whim when I saw a cube magician on TV.

I challenged my son to see who could solve the cube first. As fate was on his side, he beat me. He then sold his cube to his friend and that gave me the idea to start selling cubes! And this was how the Silent Cow brand started.

Why do I love cubing?

When you're able to solve a cube you could just tick it off your bucket list OR, like me, you might get drawn into it and you start learning new algorithms which start becoming a walk in the park.

After learning all these different types of algorithms. You get to a stage when you stop thinking and let your hands take over, and that's what I love, and that's why I love cubing.

For that moment where your muscle memory in your hands take over and do all the work for you.

Where it becomes second nature.
