The Regimental Association will be attending the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Medicina on 16th April 2025, in Italy. As the 80th anniversary falls on a Wednesday we intend to fly out on Monday 14th April spend three nights in Ravenna, returning on Thursday 17th April.

All are welcome.

A gathering of Hussars took place in the NE on Saturday 6 July, in Newcastle, organised by Paul Hindmoor. A great afternoon of catching up and England won the football too! What more is needed?

It was also an opportunity to present Regimental Rosettes to Andy Bevis and Mick Cobley, who have both been arranging reunions on our behalf for many years now, and supporting our Regimental Old Comrades. Congratulation both on your well deserved awards!

We wish James Miller a very happy 100th birthday today. Here's James meeting HM The King (picture from today's Daily Telegraph). What a great honour!

James is our eldest Old Comrade and only known WW2 veteran. He landed on Juno Beach with the 11th Hussars on 9 June 1944.

♀️ WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH HIGHLIGHT ♀️

In April 1927 The Daily Telegraph ran a presentation at Mansion House, the Lord Mayor's Estate in London. This was a commemorative event to honour four women deemed the 'French Heroines of the Great War'. Madames Belmont-Gobert, Angèle Lesur, Marie Louise Cardon and Julie Cèlestine Baudhuin were awarded for their displays of great courage and bravery in aiding 3 men during the first World War. 3 of these women, the subjects of our latest blog posts, aided 2 of the regiments own.

Madame Belmont-Gobert and Angèle Lesur kept Trooper Patrick Fowler of the 11th Hussars hidden in their cupboard for almost 3 years. You can find the actual armoire in our museum's collection.

Madame Marie Louise Cardon hid Corporal Hull in her coal house for 13 months. An action for which she endured imprisonment in multiple German prison camps until the end of the war.

*EXCITING EVENT* Attention Wi******er! The big day out at Wi******er's Military Museums, Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Wi******er, Hampshire, SO23 8TS
Museums are open: 10:00-16:00, scheduled performances are 11am onwards!

The Big Day Out at Wi******er's Military Museums: free entry to all museums; live music from a military band; museum displays, including object identification; a range of re-enactors; family activities & crafts; food & drink stalls, raffles & more.

Come along to the historic military heart of Wi******er at Peninsula Barracks and enjoy a wonderful day out for all the family; with plenty to see and do there will be something to entertain everyone!

In Museum Corner our friendly curators will be available for object identification and questions about family history or a loved one’s military service, whilst re-enactors from the Battle of Waterloo to the Boer War and beyond will be there to show and tell you about military life in the past.

The Band and Bugles of The Rifles will be performing throughout the day. Soldiers from The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, and The Adjutant General’s Corps will be on hand to talk about life in the Army today, showcasing some military vehicles and seeing if you’d make the cut – how good is your aim?

Delicious food will be available including Gurkha curries, sausages cooked on a WWI Soyer Stove from The Royal Logistics Corps Museum, and yummy cakes and coffees from local businesses.

Unleash your Creativity with our family craft activities - why not design a medal and make a helmet? Get involved with our community art project ‘Build a Battalion’, which will be on display for all to see after the event.

With free entry to the event and all the museums on site on the day, a raffle with prizes from local businesses, face painting, and more, come up to Peninsula Barracks and learn about Wi******er’s military history and heritage.

*Parking is unavailable on the site for the event due to military vehicles and stalls but there will be limited blue badge spaces.*

Can you spare a Saturday, or a couple of weekdays, per month to help your Regimental Museum?

We need to increase our team of volunteers to open the museum to visitors between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Full training and a travel allowance is provided.
