We were pleased to donate Mountain Ash, Beech, Maple and Oak trees to Trinity First School in Verwood to celebrate the school's new house names. Well done to everyone who got involved with the planting last week. We hope you enjoy watching them grow!

On World Bee Day, we thought we would share some of our favourite images of bees that we've taken buzzing around the Nursery here at Brackendale. A batch of 60 Lavender Hidcote, pictured under a beautiful blue sky in the Nursery today. Collected for a garden near Wimborne, these will form a new low growing hedge - full of scent and colour. Loved by bees and other pollinators, Lavender Hidcote and Lavender Munstead grow well locally, produce masses of lavender-blue flowers throughout the summer, and are popular choices for borders, pots and containers. Pictured are some semi-mature Photina Pink Marble plants that we currently have available in the Nursery. Photinia Pink Marble has striking variegated foliage, white spring flowers, and autumnal red berries; providing nectar for bees, and shelter and food for birds and other wildlife. When placed in a straight line and pruned annually, this variety will quickly develop into a dense hedge to screen fences and buildings - or divide areas within a garden. Growing in 35ltr containers, at 150-180cm high, these plants provide immediate impact, and were collected over the weekend for planting out in a garden in Blandford.

A reminder, as National Hedgerow Week starts this Bank Holiday, Monday 6th May, the Nursery is open today through until 4pm. If you're looking for native plants or trees to establish a new hedge, we have Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Beech, Hornbeam, Hazel, Privet and Guelder Rose available in the Nursery, along with a range of plants to create an evergreen hedge. If you want to have some fabulous colour in your garden next Spring, visit the Nursery and choose from our selection of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. These are now in full flower, and were buzzing with bees and looking stunning under today's beautiful blue sky. Preferring acidic soils, these plants thrive in many gardens locally, and offer instant evergreen impact and seasonal interest. As today marks the start of National Gardening Week, every day this week, we will be focusing on different groups of plants that we have growing in the Nursery. Evergreen hedging and screening plants are often in demand, and pictured is a collection of Thuja Plicata Atrovirens, in 20ltr containers, 210-240cms tall, ready for delivery to a garden in Parley. More commonly known as Western Red Cedar, Thuja Plicata is a hardy variety, and trees of this size will create an immediate screen and develop into a dense hedge to quickly provide privacy within a garden. If you want to improve your outlook, by screening a new house, window, or outbuilding in an adjacent property, then visit and take a look at the plants we have available.
