Botanicals for Aquariums
Natural botanicals have become increasingly popular in the aquarium hobby, offering both aesthetic appeal and environmental enrichment. Items such as Indian almond leaves, alder cones, seed pods, magnolia leaves, and driftwood create a more natural habitat that closely resembles the forest streams and blackwater rivers many fish originate from.
As botanicals break down, they release tannins and other organic compounds that can tint the water a beautiful amber color. These tannins may help lower pH in some aquariums, provide mild antimicrobial properties, and create conditions that many species, including bettas, tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and shrimp, naturally prefer.
