RECRUITING SHOP MANAGER: As you may know, Moseley Violins sells, repairs and restores orchestral string instruments in Birmingham’s ‘Bohemian’ quarter.

We have delighted in serving our local, national and international musicians ranging from young beginners to internationally renowned professionals, for more than 15 years from our current site. We have a well-visited website, but we are not an ‘online’ seller. Most transactions happen in-store, or occasionally by phone or post and courier.

We are pleased to say the business is thriving and going from strength-to-strength. So we need to expand our small team by recruiting a Shop Manager to ensure that we continue to give the same good personal service we are renowned for. They will also take responsibility for the running of the business when the Directors are absent.

So, do you know the person who can bring excellent interpersonal skills and be able to instil enthusiasm into the newest musician as well as having a good understanding of the needs of professional musicians? And can play the violin to a good standard!

Well here we are in 2023 … I never did continue this biog.

For twenty years I roamed the UK summer festivals and overwintered in my workshop here in Dorset, meeting up with pretty much every fiddle player on the scene over those years, many of whom became customers, and some very good friends. I had a blast.

There’s no need to explain the hiatus that 2020/2021 brought to our industry in two devastating formats. I ticked along, frustrated at not playing, started up a bench making business to keep myself busy; but did at least have the time to help my mum through ill health. Mum passed away and my dad moved in with me - he’s still going strong at 91.

So when time came to re-start the business toward the end of 2021, looking at all the new business “hinderances” and the universal cost increases I took the decision, as I approached the grand old age of threescore, to “Retire” - which was always my target year when working as an engineer, but never considered it to be relevant once I started Sonic Violins. I will quickly say that I am still very much here to support all my wonderful customers wherever I can.

I’m now back to where this journey started - learning to play the violin once more - now with more time, a new band along side Black Sheep and other musical projects.

Thanks to everyone I have met, chatted, shared tunes, beers and good times - from fellow traders, festival organisers and suppliers, but most of all to the wonderful community that be “fiddlers”

Some lovely words from Phil regarding the instruments I have built for him over the years.

I first met Phil as a young player back in the 80's when I was involved in The Wareham Folk Harvest, he gave me some great advice on a suitable Barcus Berry pickup; years later after a chat at The Larmer Tree Festival I purchased my first Trace Elliot amp on his recommendation.

Some 20 years after that we met up at Oxford Festival as I was just starting out with Sonic Violins, he purchased an Octave Viola, the first of many of my range of instruments that I have had the pleasure to supply him.

Thanks Phil - it's been a blast.
