The Secret Crocheter

The Secret Crocheter Crochet Teacher & Designer 🧔 Crochet Workshops 🧶 Kits & Patterns 🧶 🌟 Gifts for Crocheters 🌟 I’ll be honest with you – I really am living the dream.

I’m well known around these parts for teaching lots of lovely folk how to crochet, running lots of fabulously creative crochet workshops and spending my days designing loads of new ways to feed your crochet addiction! If you’re looking for someone to teach you to crochet; whether you’ve never held a hook before or your gran tried to teach you 20 years ago and you’ve forgotten some of it, then look

no further – I’m the woman for you. I’ve taught over 400 people to crochet in the last few years and have plenty of tricks up my sleeve for the bits you find tricky. I’m also an ex primary school teacher so I have the patience of a saint! Perhaps you’re a dab hand at the crochet already, maybe you’re looking to improve your skills, or just want some new friends to crochet with – book onto a crochet workshop or two and get creative with some like minded crafters. After a couple of hours with yours truly in the crochet cabin, stuffed full of tea/coffee and biscuits, you’ll be feeling super chilled out and relaxed, and will leave with a real sense of achievement (along with the pattern to make more, some new friends and a bag of goodies!)

For those of you who like to shop ā€˜til you drop, step outside of the crochet cabin and into the secret stash! This is where you’ll find all my easy to follow crochet patterns, simple and achievable crochet kits, and handmade accessories for crocheters. (EVERYTHING is also available to buy online!) A lot of my crochet patterns and kits are perfect for all you newbie crocheters out there as they all come with video stitch guides, and additional videos for new and trickier techniques. Sometimes it’s just easier to show you in a video rather than writing it down!

Crocheters (and other crafters!) keep telling me how much they like adding their own little ā€˜made by me’ label to finished makes...

When you’ve spent all that time making something by hand, it’s rather lovely to add a finishing touch that says, yep, I made that!

These personalised wooden buttons are made from natural birch laserply and engraved here at The Secret Crocheter by Larry the Laser.

Each set contains 6 x 25mm buttons, with lots of wording and design combinations to choose from.

You can go for ā€˜Crocheted by…’, ā€˜Made with love by…’, ā€˜Crocheted with love’ and more, adding your name and choosing from different yarny motifs on the personalised designs.

They’re perfect for adding to crochet projects, handmade gifts, craft fair stock, or simply giving something you’ve made that final little personal touch 🧔

And they arrive in one of my kraft gift boxes too, so they’re rather nice for gifting to a fellow crafter…or keeping firmly for yourself!

You might not know this about me, but…it’s not just little old me behind The Secret Crocheter! 🧔

So I thought it was about time I introduced you to the full team šŸ˜‚

There’s Larry the Laser, who makes all sorts of wooden crochet goodies and has gone from being absolutely terrifying to one of my favourite bits of kit.

Then we have Barry the Badge Maker, who doesn’t get quite as much attention as Larry but quietly gets on with his job without sounding like a plane is about to take off.

Fatty the Catty is in charge of supervision, sleeping and occasionally making an appearance when I’m trying to get something done.

Mr SC gets roped into all sorts behind the scenes…carrying things, fixing things, helping at events and generally being asked ā€˜can you just…?’ on a fairly regular basis.

And then there’s probably the most important part of The Secret Crocheter…you lot 🧔

The people who come to my workshops, make my patterns, buy my kits, send me photos of your makes, reply to my rambling emails, join in with my nonsense and keep this little business going.

So yes, The Secret Crocheter might technically be my business…but there’s definitely a whole team behind it.

Although I’m still the boss. Obviously šŸ˜‚

If you're new here - give me and wave and say hello...or if you've been here for a while - let me know who your fave team member is 🤣

Did you know I have crochet gift vouchers? 🧶

They’re very useful if you’re stuck for ideas for the crocheter in your life, especially if they already seem to have a suspiciously large collection of yarn, hooks and project bags. Not that I’m judging. Obviously.

The digital gift vouchers can be used for anything in my online shop, including Crochet Cabin workshops, crochet kits, patterns, accessories and lots of other crafty bits and bobs.

You can have the voucher emailed to you after purchase, or send it straight to the recipient. You can also choose the day it’s emailed, which is perfect for birthdays, Christmas, thank you gifts, or those last-minute 'oh help, I need a present' moments.

Just a small practical note: the voucher will be sent at the same time of day that it was purchased. So if you buy it at 9pm and schedule it for someone’s birthday, it will arrive at 9pm on their birthday, not first thing in the morning.

A lovely, easy gift for crochet lovers, workshop regulars, or anyone who deserves to choose their own crafty treat🧔

One of the things I’ve learnt after teaching hundreds of people to crochet is that very few people struggle because they can’t crochet…they struggle because they’re worried about getting it wrong.

The funny thing is, getting it wrong is exactly how you get better!

I still make mistakes….I still miss stitches….and count wrong and occasionally have to undo far more than I’d like to admit…but that’s all part of learning 🧔

So if you’re looking for someone whose crochet is always perfect…I’m probably not for you.

But if you’d like someone to reassure you that wonky stitches happen to all of us, help you work out what went wrong, and celebrate the fact that you kept going anyway…then hello šŸ‘‹

Is there something you’re struggling with in crochet at the moment? Let me know in the comments and I’ll see if I can help 🤩

If you know a crocheter who loves a nice crochet tool, this is a lovely little one🧶

These personalised crochet hooks are engraved here at The Secret Crocheter HQ using Larry the Laser, and they make a fab gift for a crochet friend or just a little treat for yourself.

The best bit? I can engrave emojis too, because apparently even crochet hooks deserve a bit of personality.

They’re made from dark bamboo wood, 5mm in size, and can be engraved for either a left-handed or right-handed crocheter. That isn’t me being awkward, I promise. It means the writing faces the person using the hook, which is rather clever, really.

This listing is for one crochet hook. So if you’re buying for someone who crochets and you’re not quite sure how it all works, one hook is all they need, unlike knitting, where there are two. See, crochet is already easier to buy for. šŸ˜‚

My crochet patterns aren’t for everyone…

…because they don’t look like most crochet patterns.

If you love traditional crochet patterns with lots of abbreviations, mine might not be your cup of tea. And that’s absolutely fine.

But if you’ve ever looked at a crochet pattern and thought, ā€˜Hang on…what does that actually mean?’ then my patterns might be exactly what you’ve been looking for 🧔

Before I started The Secret Crocheter, I spent 16 years as a primary school teacher. That experience shaped the way I write every single pattern because I know that people learn in different ways.

Some people are perfectly happy with a page full of abbreviations. Others learn best with step-by-step photos, video tutorials and instructions written in plain English.

Neither is right or wrong; they’re just different ways of learning.

So I don’t try to write the cleverest crochet patterns, but I try to write the ones that help you finish your project with confidence and enjoy the process.

If you’ve never tried one of my patterns before, why not start with a free one? I’ve popped the link to all my free patterns in the comments for you šŸ‘‡

Can I tempt you with your next crochet project? 🧶

I think this might do it…

This Tea Cup & Saucer Crochet Basket Plant Holder is such a lovely make if you fancy crocheting something a little bit different. It started life as one of my Secret Crochet Workshop projects, but it went down so well that it felt rude not to turn it into a kit.

Using chunky Bobbiny cord, you’ll crochet a textured teacup with a matching saucer and handle. It makes a gorgeous plant holder, but it’s also lovely for storing little crafty bits, hooks, stitch markers, or anything else that usually ends up rolling around your table.

The kit includes a printed pattern with pictures and video support, 50m of 5mm Bobbiny cord, 2 wooden basket bases and a recycled plastic plant pot 🪓

You will need a 6mm and 8mm hook, glue if you’d like to use it, a plant, and your usual crochet tools.

It’s best suited to someone who has crocheted before, but please don’t be put off by how fancy it looks. It’s much more achievable than it first appears.

I’ll have some of these with me SATURDAY at The Melksham Makers' Market!

I think every crocheter needs a few projects like this in their life🧶

The ones you can pick up with a cuppa, enjoy for an afternoon, and have something lovely to show for it by teatime.

The kit includes six gorgeous colours of polyester tape yarn, along with a step-by-step pattern with photos and videos, so I'll guide you through every stage. You just need your 5mm hook and your usual crochet bits and bobs.

If you're after a quick, colourful make that'll brighten up your table (and give you an excuse to put the kettle on ā˜•), I think you'll really enjoy this one.

And I’ll have some of these kits with me at The Melksham Makers' Market next Saturday! āļø
