Harry Murphy is having a brilliant run of results at Barston Lakes and despite the freezing conditions he managed to find a few fish....

Back to Barston Lakes today for a feeder/silver fish only match. With 40 fishing, they’ve pegged both banks and I’ve drawn peg 23, which I’ve been told isn’t the best area as it’s very shallow.

I started at 38m with a small, 3 hole cage feeder, feeding groundbait and joker with 3-4 blood worm on a size 18 Matrix Silver Bagger hook to 0.11 Power Micron. I used 0.10 Matrix Submerge Braid on both lines in order to magnify any small bites. I caught odd fish for the first couple of hours, which I was happy with as no one around me had had a bite yet, but with two hours to go all my liners and bites stopped, so came short for half an hour looking for some small skimmers, yet still couldn’t get a bite.

For the remaining hour I sat on my long line, which produced one more small skimmer and a nice bream with four minutes to go. This meant I ended the match with 13lbs 8oz for 2nd in the match.
