Whitstableguitars

Whitstableguitars Whitstable Guitars is an online webshop selling good quality used imported Japanese guitars For me, the build quality & playability is excellent. Here's why..

This page & my website were created by me to display a selection of used guitars for sale, mainly from Japan, but also from the USA & other countries. I really like Japanese Fenders but also Yamaha, Aria Pro II, Greco, Orville, Burny, Washburn, FGN etc etc. New For 2015

I now have an arrangement with a major instrument supplier in Japan & I am regularly importing used Japanese guitars. T

hese are all in excellent condition and often have unusual spec such as USA pickups & "domestic market only" finishes. Please have a look at what I have to offer & why not own & play something just a little different :)

I'm not a fan of selling on ebay. Did you know that if you sell something on ebay they will charge you a 10% final value fee & if your buyer uses Paypal you pay an additional 3.4% + 20p !! That's a total of nearly 13.4 % commission & you do all the work. Sell a guitar for £500 & say goodbye to £67.20 . Oh, and they also take a similar cut from your shipping too now, so if you add £25 to your listing for shipping charges, they take another £3.55 from that too. So after selling your guitar for £500, you actually receive £429.25 !! I also spend time restoring, fixing and building the odd guitar and I have documented some of my work here too. Unfortunately I am not able to undertake any customer work at present other than setup, servicing & pickup replacement but look at my "links" where I am now able to point you to a fine guitar tech. All of my guitars and other items can be purchased securely & quickly using Paypal

2024 Fender Made in Japan Hybrid II Telecaster Forest Blue & New Hard Case £799.00 + £30.00 UK shipping

JAPAN IMPORT

Here we have another Hybrid II Telecaster. They are probably my favourite guitar that Fender in Japan currently make. I use one myself when I am out gigging as it has everything I need. Fantastic build quality, great pickups, locking tuners, satin finish to the neck, 4 position switching etc etc

This guitar is in superb condition with no dents, scratches or scuffs that I can see. The film is even still on the scratchplate. I'll let the new owner peel that off & it will be like a new guitar! I did notice some very faint lines in the finish but only if you hold it up to the light. This is not damage but this is obviously how it left the Fender factory. I'm being really picky & they only show up if you hold the guitar in bright daylight but I just wanted to mention them. Unfortunately they are too faint to show up in a photograph.

This guitar is a Hybrid II telecaster whereas the others I have purchased have been first generation hybrids. So, what's the difference? I suppose the main differences with this guitar are that it comes loaded with vintage voiced pickups which sound great. The body is still Alder but it has the preferred "belly cutaway" & the finish is a lovely "Forest Blue" (which actually looks much better in the flesh) and it has a 60's style 8 hole pickguard. The first generation Hybrids were produced as "50's, 60's or 70's" Hybrids but the Hybrid II's are just produced as Hybrids. Other than that I think they are pretty much the same. Same switching, locking tuners, bridge, saddles, Satin finish on the back of the neck & 9.5" radius. I actually use one of these in my covers band so if you want to see one being played, just look at the YouTube videos on our website homepage:

Since 2015, Fender Made in Japan guitars have been produced at the "Dyna-Gakki" factory in Nagano. This facility has been making fabulous guitars since 1972 for Fender Japan (pre 2015) Greco, Fernandes. The quality of the instruments coming from this factory is superb.

https://vintagejapanguitars.com/dyna-gakki-en/

This guitar is in excellent condition and looks to be little used. . There are also some pick marks on the scratchplate but that is about it.

They have been available in very limited numbers in the UK at around £1200 supplied with a thin gig bag but everywhere seems to be sold out now. Probably because they are so good. Also, most I have found have a Rosewood fretboard. This is more unusual with a Maple one.

In short, Fender has taken classic models, 50's Teles & Strats, 60's Teles & Strats & Jazzmasters & adapted them with some modern tweaks whilst retaining the classic looks. In the case of this 60s Telecaster, it still has the Alder body, 3 ply 8 hole pickguard & a Maple neck and Rosewood fretboard but it also has a 9.5" Radius fretboard instead of a 7.25", medium jumbo frets, a satin finish to the neck rather than gloss, locking tuners, a set of Fender Vintage voiced pickups & a 4 way switch giving an "in series" option with switching.

For me, the best features on this guitar are the 9.5" fretboard radius, the vintage voiced pickups with the 4 way switch which I find really useful for soloing & the locking tuners which do exactly what they're supposed to do. At 3.34 kg it's a light, well balanced guitar too. The price also includes a new £65.00 hard case making it a good deal.

An excellent player & superb looker. This Tele really ticks all the boxes for me and I can't see it hanging around for very long.

The Traditional II Series late 60's Stratocaster is a really good reissue of the late 60's USA Stratocaster. Late 60's Strats have the large headstocks like the 70's models but they have some subtle differences, notably, an enclosed trussrod rather than the "bullet" style which is accessed by removing the neck, a 4 bolt neck plate, "Fender" stamped bridge saddles and "With Synchronized Tremolo" still on the headstock transfer. The main difference from the original "traditional series" is that they have a more modern 9.5" fretboard radius. This particular instrument is in great condition & the only blemishes I found were 2 tiny dents (2-3mm) on the back of the guitar between the neck plate & the back plate. I have to describe them as a camera will not pick them up.

The guitar is, as usual, a really nice player and the Fender MIJ Vintage Alnico pickups sound great

Whitstable Guitars guitar of the day is a very affordable, Japanese, Deviser built Bacchus Telecaster.

2015 Bacchus Japan Craft Series Tactics Natural/Oil MIJ & New Hard Case £619.00 + £30.00 UK shipping

JAPAN IMPORT

Bacchus guitars are excellent. Made by the highly rated Deviser factory in Japan they come in different grades. At the top is the "Handmade Series". The next level down are the "Craft Series" are also excellent and which this is one. Fantastic build quality & made in Japan to a high spec. I have had 3 or 4 Bacchus guitars & all have been superb. What attracted me to this one was the beautifully figured Ash body and the P90 at the neck.
I currently use a Telecaster which I love but I find the neck pickup just a little weak at times. This guitar doesn't have any of those problems. The pickups are very highly rated and are made at the Deviser factory. Cloth covered wiring etc etc. The rest of the hardwear is top quality GOTOH. So with the addition of a contoured 3 piece Ash body with an oiled finish and a nice slim Maple neck which has a lacquered satin finish and has a flatter 11" radius fretboard, it ticks all the right boxes for me!

Introduction (From Bacchus guitars)

An updated model of the Tactics Telecaster equipped with a soap bar type Bacchus STP-1 pickup. This neck pickup is characteristic of a deep and sharp tone while the dry and chunky tones of the VTP-1 bridge pickup give you a high versatility and expressiveness. Like T-STANDARD, enhanced mobility and operability. Equipped with an original DEVISER DTB-1 SET bridge set.

There are signs of use (scratches, scuffs, pick marks, buckle marks, tarnishing, pitting, rust on metal parts and screws, etc.) and noticeable marks are photographed and can be seen in the photo gallery. Looking at the Bacchus website, this guitar was built at the Deviser factory at Aska, Japan in 2015. The playing condition is excellent & it is ideal for those players who want something just a little different. Here's the spec..

The 2020 Collection Traditional II Series 70's Stratocaster was originally produced for the Japanese market only but a few have found themselves available in the UK via import like this one. The main difference from the original "traditional series" is that they have a more modern 9.5" fretboard radius. This particular instrument was graded as "A" by my supplier in Japan & is all but a new guitar with just some light playing marks on the scratchplate. Closer inspection shows that it actually still has the factory film protective covering. It truly is in superb condition.

The guitar is, as usual a really nice player and the Fender Japan Vintage Alnico pickups sound great

Here is one of my favourite Japanese Fenders. The Hybrid II Telecaster. Unlike the others listed on this site, this one has a Rosewood fretboard and is finished in the ever popular traditional Sunburst. It also features a black 3 ply scratchplate & just looks great.

This guitar is a Hybrid II telecaster whereas the others I have purchased have been first generation hybrids. So, what's the difference? This guitar is in really good condition and plays beautifully but there was a small 3mm dent on the top when it came in which I have repaired and it had some little dents around the edges. Ahead of some new arrivals at the end of the week, here's Whitstable Guitars guitar of the day 🤩

1990's Fernandes/Burny Japan RLC-70-60 Les Paul Custom Black & new hard case £759.00 + £30.00 UK shipping

JAPAN IMPORT

Here we have a Japanese Fernandes Burny Les Paul Custom from 1991-1993. Japanese Burny guitars are really highly rated. A quick google search will tell you that.

The Burny RLC-70-60 is basically a Les Paul Custom featuring Gold hardwear, bound body, neck & headstock and featuring it's original VH-1 pickups which are very sought after. If you look in the gallery photos, the VH-1 stickers are still on the pickups although you can only just make out the lettering. The finish on this guitar is supposed to be polyurethane but the lacquer looks more like I have seen on old Nitro finished guitars. Maybe someone can correct me?

This guitar has been used in its 30+ year life and there is tarnishing to the gold hardwear. The bridge & stop tailpiece are pitted and the pickup covers are also tarnished. Most of the screws on the pickup surrounds that would have originally been gold are now black but everything still functions and the guitar is all original apart from the strap buttons which were replaced recently and the pickguard which was missing when it came in. I have added a generic one which is a reasonable fit. The body of the guitar has numerous chips and scrapes from honest use but the frets are good and it plays and sounds amazing.

Here is some information I obtained about this model from Japan:

The Les Paul Custom RLC was featured in the '80s and '90s, and was reintroduced towards the end of Fernandes' life.
It was in the '80s as the RLC-60'60 MODEL, and in '89 the headstock inlay was made the same as this instrument's, and in '90 it was refined as the RLC-65'60 MODEL with changed pickups.
It was renamed the RLC-70'60 MODEL in '91, but disappeared from the catalog in '93. With its all-mahogany body and mahogany top, it exudes a unique character that can't be found in a simple Les Paul copy. Even at this price point, features such as over-fret binding and a vintage-inspired 17-degree headstock angle are testaments to Fernandes' commitment and advanced technical expertise.

About Fernandes/Burny

Burny is a sub-brand of Fernandes Guitars. Initially used on their range of Gibson replica guitars produced by Fernandes Guitars. The Fernandes company was established in 1969 in Japan. Its Burny brand was used for the Gibson replica guitars while the Fernandes brand was used for the Fender replica guitars. Fernandes initially made acoustic guitars and started making electric guitars in late 1973. The Burny Les Paul models first appeared in 1975. Steve Jones from the S*x Pistols has used Burny guitars as has Robert Fripp of King Crimson, Steve Hackett of Genesis and Billie Joe of Green Day

I have had to do a bit of research on this guitar and Japanese Burny guitars were built at both the Fujigen & Terada factories like Orvilles were. Some Fujigen built ones had no serial numbers or they were in the pickup cavities, under the tuning pegs or other unusual places. As you can see in the gallery, there is no serial number on this guitar & the only way to date it is by the production dates.

A quick google search of this model shows them being advertised at around the £1000-£1200 mark. That seems a little excessive to me and I would compare it to an Orville or OBG of the same period and I have priced it accordingly

These guitars were only ever made in small numbers making them quite scarce & sought after, particularly outside of Japan.

2017 Fender Made in Japan Traditional 60's Stratocaster Sonic Blue & new Hard Case £779.00 + £30.00 UK shipping

JAPAN IMPORT

This 60's style Stratocaster is a Fender Made in Japan model from the "Traditional Series" which came out a few years ago. Essentially it's the same as the old '62 reissues but this one is around 9 years old but has had little use.

The condition of this guitar is very good and it only had 2 small dents when it came in which are on the back of the guitar. I have drop filled these & smoothed and polished them. There is also a small paint chip on the lower edge of the neck joint. These can all be seen in the gallery photos. The guitar plays really well like to would expect from a Japanese Fender and it is all original with almost no fretwear & no indents. I've just looked online and these were available in the UK with a price tag of £1299.00 supplied with a gig bag. So here's a saving of £500 on the new price with a new hard case thrown in. I think that's a bargain any day of the week!
