A GREAT DEAL WITH A STORY...
The Olympia Oil & Cake Co. (O.C.O.) operated the largest linseed oil crushing and refining plant in Europe. Based at Olympia House/Mill, Selby, Yorkshire and Union House, St. Martins le Grand, London, EC1, it also processed hardening whale oil. According to Grace's Guide of British industrial history, Joseph Watson suffered substantial losses in an unsuccessful speculation in linseed oil for his plant, and Olympia Oil & Cake was sold to the Dutch firm Jurgens, which had outbid Levers.
Interestingly, OCO provided 'the first village estate' of workers' housing soon after 1910. A 1929 advert shows products as diverse as Soycot Cake, balanced ration dairy cubes, milk ration cubes, sheep and lamb cubes, and 'complete pig food' cubes. Now there's a story to tell as these wagons trundle around your layout...
