After lots of planning, I’m pleased to announce I’ll be helping out with this years Heritage Open Week here in my home town of Southport 😊.

Heritage Open Week happens every year and is England’s biggest festival of history and culture. Held every September, it gives people free access to hidden places and historic sites that are normally closed, along with talks, displays and family friendly events. Type it into Google, it’ll bring up a whole host of places in your town, and it’s absolutely brilliant! I’ve visited loads over the years.

So, I’ll be in the amazing setting that is The Wayfarers Arcade. It’s a magnificent Victorian shopping arcade built in 1898, the glass dome ceiling and ornate ironwork are beautiful.

I’ll be setting up a display of Victorian garments from the 1890’s, a selection of clothes from old Southport shops, and a large display of hosiery & undergarments from the 1940’s (new old stock) from an old Southport shop.

Good friend Jacob Jacob Gary will hopefully be joining me with a fascinating display on the history of Southport Fire Brigade.

Ginificent Theatre Company will be coming along dressed in original garments used in their annual stage production of A Christmas Carol. Ginificent are an independent theatre, media and film company based in Southport.

If you’re free, please come along. It’s part of a Victorian themed day in the Arcade to highlight our gorgeous Victorian town 😊. And if you’re able, come along in Victorian dress! (Don’t worry, it doesn’tSouthport Heritage Open DaysIt’s a free event-all the Heritage events are. Saturday 19th September, all ages more than welcome. There’s loads to do in Southport, make it a day out or an overnight stay.

A huge thanks to Heather Southport Heritage Open Days for sorting it all out ☺️.

The staff at Sunday Best are having their annual week’s “jolly” this week. One place I’ve always wanted to visit is Pembrokeshire on the South Wales coast 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, and it’s absolutely amazing-what a beautiful part of the world.

As it’s a Sunday, we opted for a local car boot sale in a place called Carew. Loads of great stalls, a “proper” boot sale rather than the absolute tat sold at most boot sales these days.

Anyway-one of the stalls happened to be selling a tin full of buttons. I’m always after old buttons as I’m forever repairing & replacing garments. We got chatting the lady on the stall, and she happened to produce this book!!! She had a few copies for sale, and it’s absolutely brilliant ☺️ (I’m easily pleased 😂).

Written by Sylvia Llewelyn, it’s a fascinating read on the history of buttons-every type of button is described and why they were made. It’s beautifully illustrated and is an absolute wealth of information. Every day is a lesson, and this little book will definitely be in my reference section at home. There’s even a pull out price guide at the back-sweet! A great wee book!

Sylvia’s due to be opening a button museum in the next few months in Milford Haven which will be open to the public. By the sounds of it it’s one hell of a collection, I’ll definitely be going

I completely forgot to post this sorry 🙄, I was away trading at an event at the time and it slipped my mind when I arrived back. But, better late than never!

So, here we have Bain & Murrin shop front in Hay-On-Wye, Hereford. I’ve never been, but I definitely need to visit, it looks like an amazing shop-an emporium of antique & vintage 🥰

You may notice on the far right, it’s Mr Panda! 🐼 I rescued him from a fancy dress shop which was closing down, I fell in love with him, and was made up when he found his new forever home at this wonderous shop ☺️. And even better, he’s holding a guitar!

Absolutely brilliant!

One area often overlooked in the world of re-enactment are the Fire Brigade. The history of the Fire Services in the UK is fascinating, in particular the roles of the Auxiliary Fire Service & National Fire Service during ww2. The formation of the Fire Services on a local basis only started as late as 1947, before this Firemen were largely unpaid volunteers.

I’ve always loved everyday working uniforms, the old thick wool Fire tunics are beautiful.

I’ve become good friends over the past few years with Jacob Gary who’s a wealth of information on the history of the service, in particular the different uniforms. Jacob’s been researching our local brigade here in Southport for many years, which is a brilliant thing as nobody else has, so gathering the disappearing history is vital to pass on the knowledge. Jacob also volunteers at the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service Education Centre in Bootle-he’s a top bloke and a fellow collector 😊👍🏻.

So here’s Jacob at a historical weekend with a display talking about the service. Dressed in correct period uniform 👌🏻, I’ve just sold him a pair of braces which definitely compliment the outfit ☺️.

We’re hopefully doing something together in September for the heritage weekend 🤞🏻, watch this space!

I’ve been obsessed with vintage clothes, textiles and textile conservation for a very long time. When this beautiful lady walked into the stall Fantasy Forest at the weekend, I was transfixed with the dress.

It’s entirely handmade from old fabric remnants and antique embroidered panels, the front was as intricate as the back. Why have these things folded away in a drawer when they can be displayed on a dress? I totally agree! Everything on the dress was a handmade work of art, and beautifully brought together in dress form 🥰.

Absolutely amazing work by the very talented Andrea Brain 👏🏻.

We absolutely love it 💜. Beautiful

A few of the highlights from Fantasy Forest 2026 😊. We didn’t get chance to take many snaps this year, mainly because we were busy catching up with everyone, people watching, selling, or just melting in the heat!

First up are these beautiful people 🥰, a definite favourite of Mrs Sunday Best. They originally arrived at the tent “out of sequence”. But when they lined up in the correct order-it all made sense! Can you guess what they are? 🤔…….

I didn’t see it, but Bev did….

The seasons-Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

Absolutely brilliant ☺️, love it! We didn’t catch your names sorry, but please message/comment and say hello-the outfits are fantastic 👏🏻

We’re just back home after an epic Fantasy Forest 2026! By crikey it was a hot one, but absolutely fantastic ☺️. No tweeds or Sunday Best uniform sorry, it was lightweight & practical to survive!

I’ll try and get together some pics the next few days. But just to say a huge thank you to everyone who dropped by the stall 💜. The reason I still love what I do is getting the chance to meet like minded creative, interesting and hugely talented people ☺️.

I’ve shamelessly pinched these pictures sorry 😬, from a reel by the wonderful ☺️. Here we have good friend and all round legend that is Andy Hopton. It’s been a real privilege seeing the creations evolving-a talented chap indeed. Give Andy a follow and see his creations taking shape 👌🏻.

Updates to follow soon. I’m off to bed for about three days
