🥳 Lyse Doucet has been awarded the 2026 Women's Prize for Non-Fiction for 'The Finest Hotel in Kabul: A People's History of Afghanistan' 🥳

Lyse Doucet's debut book is a richly crafted recent history of modern Afghanistan, told through the many people who lived and worked at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Kabul whilst surviving decades of turbulence.

🥳 Virginia Evans has been awarded the 2026 Women's Prize for Fiction for 'The Correspondent' 🥳

Composed of letters to friends, family and real-life authors, 'The Correspondent' is an uplifting and moving novel that confronts the hubris of youth with the wisdom of older age. Through her 73-year-old protagonist Sybil Van Antwerp’s connection with the written word, Evans considers the choices we make, those we regret and unexpected second chances.

To celebrate Bookbug week this year we are sending you on a quest!
Use the picture to find out where Bookbug is hiding- if you know where it is pay the branch a visit today (during opening times, which you can find here - https://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/libraries-parks-leisure/libraries/find-library and tell the staff the phrase “ Bookbug’s Big Quest” The first 10 children under 5 years of age will receive a small Bookbug of their own to keep!
There will be 1 branch per day, and the prizes must be claimed on the day the post is published on Facebook.

🤩 IT’S NEARLY HERE! We're looking forward to one of our favourite book festivals: *Boswell Book Festival at Dumfries House, Ayrshire, from 8–10 May*

Some events have already sold out, so if you haven't booked your tickets already, you'll need to get a move on! We've missed out on a couple of great-looking events ourselves 😢 but have tickets for many others 😁

With author talks, interviews and book signings, plus guided tours, workshops and of course their Children’s Festival, there’s something for all at *The World’s Only Festival of Biography and Memoir* In addition, you get to enjoy the 2,000-acre grounds of the spectacular Dumfries House Estate.

We delivered festival programmes directly to many customers and left small stacks locally at West Kilbride Village Hall, WK Community Centre, NACC Bookshop, WK Parish Church, St Bride's RC Church, Bernie's 2.0 Cafe, Seamill House Hotel, Seamill Hydro, and The Waterside Hotel & Spa.
