🎲 FREE RPG DAY IS COMING TO D6 DEN! 🎲

On Sunday 6th September we're celebrating Free RPG Day with a full day of tabletop roleplaying at D6 Den!

If you've always fancied giving an RPG a go but never really known where to start, this is the perfect opportunity. We'll have a selection of different games running throughout the day, with sessions staggered so there should be plenty of chances to jump in and try something new.

You don't need to be an experienced player either — complete beginners are absolutely welcome! 😁

We'll have games running from 9am until 6pm, with everything you need to get involved provided on the day.

Come along, roll some dice, meet some new people and maybe discover your next favourite RPG! 🎲

⚔️ New to Combat Patrol?

Combat Patrol is one of the easiest ways to get your first proper games of Warhammer 40,000 on the table. Smaller armies, fixed forces and a more manageable ruleset make it ideal for learning — without needing to build a full 2,000-point army first!

Our latest hobby guide looks at how to play Combat Patrol, including setting up the battlefield, understanding each phase, using terrain, scoring objectives and some of the common mistakes to avoid when you're getting started.

One of the biggest things to remember: you don't win by simply destroying everything! Playing the objectives and knowing what job each unit has can make a huge difference.

And if you're still learning, you're always welcome to arrange a game at D6 Den. We've got the tables, terrain and plenty of players who are happy to help newer players get started. 🎲

🎨 How to Paint Power Armour

Power armour can look fantastic without needing dozens of paints or complicated techniques!

The biggest thing is getting a good contrast between the armour panels, weapons, joints and smaller details, then following a painting process that you can actually repeat across the rest of your army.

Our latest hobby guide covers everything from choosing your colour scheme and primer through to:

🖌️ Getting smooth basecoats
🌑 Recess shading without muddying your armour
✨ Edge highlighting and picking out details
💥 Adding battle damage and weathering
👁️ Painting lenses, metallics and purity seals
🏜️ Finishing the base and protecting your model

One bit of advice we'd definitely give is paint one test model first! Get the scheme to a point you're happy with before committing yourself to painting another 20 models the same way 😂

And as always, if you've got a project you're working on, you're more than welcome to bring it along and do some painting in the D6 Den hobby space.

⚔️ Which Warhammer army should you start with?

It's probably one of the most common questions from people looking to get into Warhammer 40,000, and our answer is normally pretty simple...

Pick the army you actually like! 😁

Rules change, points change and what's considered the "best" army will change plenty of times while you're in the hobby. The models you're going to spend hours building and painting are much more important.

That said, some armies can definitely be a little easier to get started with than others.

Space Marines are great all-rounders, Necrons can be relatively quick to paint and are pretty resilient, Orks are fantastic if you enjoy a bit of kitbashing and chaos, while Tyranids give you everything from huge monsters to massive swarms.

Our biggest advice though is don't immediately buy a 2,000 point army! 😂

Start with something manageable like a Combat Patrol, get it built, get some paint on it and most importantly get it onto the table. After a few games you'll have a much better idea of how you actually want to expand your army.

🎲 A proper game of Warhammer deserves a proper table!

We've all tried squeezing a game onto a table that's just a little bit too small, with dice, books, drinks and dead models gradually taking over every spare inch. 😂

Having the right gaming space makes a massive difference, especially when you're settling in for a full 2,000 point game.

At D6 Den we've got dedicated Warhammer gaming tables and terrain, so you can book your space, turn up with your army and concentrate on actually playing the game rather than worrying about where you're going to fit everything.

Whether you're looking for a competitive game, something casual, trying out a new army or helping somebody through their first few games, we've put together a few tips on making the most of your time at the table.

🎲☕ More than just somewhere to play a game...

Our latest blog post takes a look at what we think makes a good tabletop gaming café and hobby space.

For us, it's about having somewhere you can actually spend time enjoying the hobby. Somewhere to book a proper gaming table, build or paint some miniatures, meet other players and grab some food or a fresh coffee while you're here.

That's exactly what we're continuing to build at D6 Den.

Whether you're coming in for a 2,000 point game of Warhammer, bringing a board game along with friends, working on your latest painting project or just fancy sitting down for a coffee, we want D6 Den to be a space you can actually use and enjoy.

We've made quite a few changes recently to make better use of the space we have, and there's still plenty more we want to do! 😁
