DEAR ENGLAND, an exhibition (3rd June -3rd July) by Howard Michels showing drawings and paintings of London and England as part of the Walthamstow Art Trail 2026 (5th-14th June).

The drawings and paintings spring from an interest in a diverse range of places, settings and encounters that inspire a broad range of work such as reflections of Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey at night, panoramic views of the Thames seen from The Monument and The London Eye. There are depictions that explore some iconic interior spaces such as the main hall of Alexexandra Palace, the celebrated Gants Hill underground station and The Historic Dockyard Chatham Ropery.
The beauty of the countryside is featured through watercolours made of Doudle Door in Dorset, the Norfolk North Sea coast and Rochester viewed from a distance.
The pictures combine a broad range of richly detailed styles, subjects and techniques inspired by a diverse range of influences including some colourful observations of Iris plants reflecting the traditions and styles of Japanese woodblock prints.

Boris Borns "Divine Remnants" series offers a raw, unsettling experience. By draining the canvas until only "dead-painted" remnants remain, the artist creates work that feels like a skeleton of an aura—devoid of nature or memory, yet pulsing with a strange, contradictory life.

THRESHOLDS
The Making of Form and Self
Retrospective Exhibition

My work is marked by the colours of South America and by the sturdiness, hardship, and grounded spirit of Indigenous cultures.

I have been practising ceramics for the past sixteen years, and it has opened a whole world of possibilities, allowing me to bring three-dimensional characters and stories to life that would otherwise exist only in my imagination.

Ceramics has brought me closer to other makers and has helped me open up, both as an artist and as a person. It has connected me with others through their stories and has made me a better listener.

With this exhibition, I aim to mark a before and an after — a way of honouring the learning process of a maker, offering perspective on the creative journey, and expressing my gratitude to the Walthamstow community, which has hosted and supported my work for so long. 1-25 April 2026. Past / Present / Future
brings together works that move between memory, the moment of making, and what lies ahead. The figures exist in a space between abstraction and reality, shaped by instinct rather than precise representation. Alongside painting, Anton expands his
practice through the use of plaster forms, color, and neon light.
These elements shape the work through contrast and tension.
This exhibition reflects an ongoing state of becoming. The works are informed by the past, created in the present, and open to the
future-inviting the viewer to experience art as both object and
atmosphere, without fixed resolution.

Rule of Three refers to the principle of asymmetry, or groupings of three feeling more complete, satisfying, memorable and bal- anced. It is the smallest number required to create a pattern and rhythm. From ancient stories about genies granting three wishes, to tales of the three Magi, and children’s stories such as Goldi- locks and the Three Bears, the rule of three has been a mainstay in many kinds of storytelling since primeval times.
As three artists, with their own stories, cultural backgrounds and individual ways of working - through varied processes, materials and ideas - the title The Rule of Three seemed appropriate and also aspirational. Our first three person exhibition shows our work together in dialogue, a three way conversation to create new connections, meanings and shared stories.
The exhibition brings together abstract painters:
Beatrice Nespega, Esther Sample, and Neha Nandedkar;
three creative voices and approaches that contribute to a shared rhythm

Borderlands: Thresholds in Painting is a group show by four London painters at Pictorem Gallery.
Opening Reception: Friday 5 December, 6 -8.30 pm

This exhibition examines the concept of "borderlands" - not merely as geographic demarcations but as symbolic, cultural and emotional liminal spaces where identities, traditions and disciplines intersect. Through their approaches to painting each artist engages with in-between spaces, challenging the stability of borders and embracing the flux of identity, belonging and creativity. The work invites viewers to consider painting itself as a threshold: a site where edges blur, forms evolve, and new possibilities emerge. The work in the exhibition offers an opportunity to consider one’s own relationship with borderlands and what may lie at the edge of those experiences.

Open from 5 December – 9 January (Closed Dec 24, reopens Jan 6). Pictorem Gallery, 383 Hoe Street, Walthamstow E17 9AP

By Their Fruit
Exhibition by Renata Hegyi

The exhibition "By Their Fruit" showcases recently painted pieces with the title serving as a
guiding theme for the subject matter.
Rooted in still-life settings, the paintings are created from observation and gradually
incorporate imaginary elements.
Hegyi was influenced by an online comment citing the Biblical verse Matthew 7:16, "By
their fruit you will recognise them”suggesting a theme of questioning or understanding
something or someone by their outcomes or creations. This resonates with Hegyi’s
exploration of metaphors that reflect the human experience, in particular the idea of self-
reflection through the essence of objects, and the interplay of identity and perception."
Hegyi's titles are often metaphors, too, with the ambiguity of language standing in for the
strangeness and precariousness of human experience.
Hegyi is an alumna of Royal Academy Schools and based in London. Her work has been
exhibited in the UK and internationally.

“Sea Senses” aims to portray human nature through volatility of the sea. The mind is full of one’s thoughts, aspirations and imaginations, which float around much like the waves and tides. I have captured the essence of this ‘mood’ through powerful strokes contrasted with calming colours. Thus, making these abstract artworks, a constant reminder of how powerful the mind can be, much like the waves, their thoughts will come and go quickly, and one must focus on the beauty of their imagination in order to cultivate better mindfulness and peace within.
