🥾 Top 3 Beginner-Friendly Hikes Near Ullapool
New to hiking or just after something a bit more relaxed with big reward? These easygoing routes are perfect for stretching the legs and soaking in the Highland magic — no scrambling required!
1. Ullapool Hill (Meall Mòr)
📍 Starts right from town!
⏱️ 1–2 hours | 🟢 Easy
A local favourite with views that punch well above its height. The path zigzags up behind the town and gives panoramic views over Loch Broom and out to the Summer Isles. Ideal for sunrise or sunset. Bring a camera!
2. Lael Forest Walks
📍 15 mins south on the A835
⏱️ 1–1.5 hours | 🟢 Easy
A network of woodland trails with babbling burns, mossy trees, and wee waterfalls. Great for families or a peaceful nature fix. It’s especially lovely after a bit of rain (just wear decent footwear!).
3. Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve
📍 25 mins drive north
⏱️ 1 hour | 🟢 Easy
Walk through 500 million years of geological history! Short trails with info boards, jaw-dropping views of the surrounding landscape, and a unique chance to learn about the famous Moine Thrust. Big scenery with minimal effort.
