Latest Uig update – received from the Scotland/Cumbria Partnership Director for Openreach 27th May

Work has started to bring Full Fibre broadband to homes and businesses in Uig and nearby communities through the R100 and Project Gigabit programmes.

The two publicly funded initiatives are joining forces to maximise impact: Project Gigabit, funded by the UK government and managed in Scotland by the Scottish Government, and the Scottish Government's Reaching 100% (R100) programme,

Openreach has completed the first stage of build, with almost 20km of new Full Fibre network now in place.
In the next stage, more than 200 homes and businesses will get access to Full Fibre, with the first customers expected to be able to order later this summer. Work will continue throughout the year, starting in areas including Timsgearraidh, Bhaltos, Cairisadar, Cradhlastadh and Carnais.

Openreach is also planning a second phase to reach even more communities, including Aird Uig, Mangurstadh, Islibhig and Breanais. Survey work is already underway and is due to finish later this summer, when the next stage of the build will be confirmed.

The collaboration between UK and Scottish governments is creating opportunities to drive efficiencies between the R100 programme – which has already connected over 97,000 properties across Scotland – and Project Gigabit, enabling even more access to gigabit-capable broadband for rural communities.

To Charity & Chris, so very kind. Many thanks from us all. 😀
