Love this!

Some of our members recently enjoyed a thought provoking creative writing workshop hosted by Alice from Soundart Radio together with writer Lucy Lepchani. Guided by Lucy, we explored the theme of street life and created poems which Alice then recorded in readiness for broadcast today which is to be held jointly with St John’s Primary School.
We really hope you can tune in, listen and enjoy.

We are excited to offer a full, three-volume set of Hugh R Watkin’s The History of Totnes Priory and Medieval Town, Devonshire (with the sister priory of Tywardreath, Cornwall), published between 1914-17 by the author, and still in its original cloth bindings. The work draws heavily on primary sources to document the development of Totnes, its priory, and its inhabitants, providing detailed insight into who owned land, how the church was funded, and how the town developed as a trading centre.

The books were formerly in the collection of the late Cornish nationalist, publisher, and activist Len Truran (died 1997) who amassed a significant and comprehensive library of antiquarian books on Cornish history, mining and politics.

👉Available to view in the shop. Price on application.

Something for local historians – a charming and well preserved edition of Cockrem’s Tourist’s Guide to Torquay and its Neighbourhood dating from the 1880s, complete with original fold out maps. Originally published in 1856, Cockrem’s guide went through several editions until his business was taken over by Westley & Co, a local bookseller and stationer, who reprinted it c.1882.
