Rebellion-Day 4.

A nice stroll on the Prom in the morning brought me round a bit. A hot dog for breakfast helped as well.

A catch up with friends in the Station pub, then off to see Bad Blood at the Scream bar, the band were good, the booze was not.
Managed to get in the Washington pub for the first time, North Wales’s Stuntface played an excellent high energy set, well done boyos.
Into the Winter Gardens just in time for Haywires rearranged time slot, great US hardcore with a lively singer.
Pete Bentham and the Dinner Ladies packed out the Arena and deservedly so, they are so good live.
HMHB style lyrics, catchy tunes, entertaining stage antics, what’s not to like, sheer class!
Also enjoyed Iconoclasts with female vocals, had a pleasant surprise watching this early 80’s group who I hadn’t seen before.

Back out to the Sports Bar for a couple of cracking pints, with the DJ playing some classic songs.

SLF are one of my favourite bands from back in the day.
I don’t usually bother to watch them when they tour, as they can never match the 4/5 times I saw them in their heyday. At Festivals they’ve got a bit of a shorter time slot, so I do try and make the effort as I know I’m going to hear their ‘classics’.
They were awesome tbf, and were the perfect end to another great Festival.

When they played ‘Gotta Getaway’, I could visualise my Dad in 1979 shouting up to my bedroom telling me to turn it down, great memories.

Blackpool-see you next year, accommodation booked.

Rebellion Festival-Day 3.

Blackpool is absolutely rammed for the Airshow.
Great to see all the Pubs/Cafes bursting at the seams.

Makes getting a pint a bit harder as The Ardwick is three deep at the bar, so I popped into William Hill instead, a profitable visit with a 4 team acca coming in.

Todays hostelries visited were The Station, Fishermans Cove, and the Sports Bar-all less than £4 a jar. Met some great people from all over, fantastic company.

Enjoyed myself a bit too much in the boozers, so didn’t get to see as many bands as I wanted.
What I did see were all quality though.
Newport’s very own Nanaz went down great in The Pavilion, the reformed Deadline were superb in the Casbah with Liz’s vocals spot on, I sang along to every tune, though their lead guitarist flounced off stage 3/4 into their set.🤷‍♂️
A new band for me The Gakk were really good in The Arena, then I had the difficult choice of seeing which headliner, The Skids or C**k Sparrer.

I headed to the Empress Ballroom for Sparrer, I was just about to turn around cos it was so full, then managed to sneak into the disabled section. A good view to see one of the greatest bands in Punk Rock history, they were superb.

Rebellion Festival-Day 2.

Sad news everyone, it’s now a scandalous £1.90 a pint in The Ardwick. It took me a while to get over this ridiculous price increase, but I eventually composed myself after a few liveners.

Record shopping was done at Jim’s Vinyl on Topping street, a lovely guy who gives decent discounts.

I also had a very quick look at the Record Fair in the town. Jaw dropping high prices, just one example was run of the mill 2 tone singles at £20 each!!! Needless to say that no purchases were made at the several stalls I browsed.

As for the bands, some real class acts today.
Roman Jugg Band knocked out a very entertaining Damned set, mostly their gothy period tunes as obviously they were the ones he played on. His vocals were a bit hit and miss, but his extremely tight band made up for it.

Random Hand on the acoustic stage were great fun with a mix of Ska, almost mariachi tunes, sounds awful but it worked.

TV Smith did his Adverts set, I got bored after 20 minutes tbh, a shame as I love that group.
Ferocious Dog certainly didn’t disappoint, great Folk-Punk tunes with lots of people jumping about, including me.

Two bands I love playing back to back in The Arena(the best venue imo), Special Duties and Cult Maniax, both were fantastic.
SD have got the early 80’s sound perfectly nailed down, and CM’s mix of all genres of Punk was exhilarating resulting in a Phil Fuzz pogo session.

Over to the Opera House to finish off the day with the Rezillos who were as good as ever, a couple too many new songs, but still ‘Top Of The Pops’ for entertainment value.

Cult Maniax for the win, band of the day.

Rebellion-Day 1.
A very entertaining first day, saw some great bands in the Winter Gardens and at the Fringe venues.
Highlights included the always wonderful Mob, South Wales very own Crossed Swhc and Foreign Legion both played really good sets.
The glorious garage Punk two piece The Courettes pulled a cracking turnout in the home of darts the Empress Ballroom, Black Water County’s folk Punk sounded excellent in the Opera House.
Complete Dysfunction in the Washington pub got my toes tapping and probably the best of the day was a group I’d never heard before, The Bolokos from France who went down a storm in the Arena.
No real disappointments, though Scream (who I last saw at the Transport Club in Cardiff) suffered from a traditionally poor sound in the Casbah. I only lasted a couple of songs.
I’ll be visiting that venue as little as possible.🙁

Friday awaits, Record shopping day, then a few cheap pints in The Ardwyck.

REBELLION 2026 is SOLD OUT!!!
Thanks to everyone that has bought their tickets already. For the first time in our 30 year's of running the festival, we have sold out EVERY DAY. Even in the years that we've sold out of weekend tickets there's always been a few Thursday or Sunday tickets on the door. But this year every ticket we have has sold out. Gone. Nothing left. And it's only February!!! Our Rebellion family is amazing and we thank you from the bottom of our heart for making this happen.

We are still 100% a family run DIY festival. We don't have sponsorship, we don't have the bars in the Winter Gardens or any of the other perks that outside festivals may have. So we rely solely on ticket sales in order to stage the festival. Without you, there's no us.

There's been years of huge loses, there's been years of scraping through, there's been years of great attendance but higher costs and there's been times when the government just told us outright that it was illegal to stage the event. But throughout all this we've just put on the best line up within our means year on year and over those 30 years you've grown with us. No longer a nostalgia festival, since we became Rebellion in 2007 we've championed the new sound of punk and have built a platform for many bands to launch onto the scene. Our proudest moments are seeing bands that were booked on our Rebellion Introducing Stage go on to play the main stages, headline shows of their own and get great slots at other events.

We sold out of weekend tickets in 2024 just before the event. We sold out of weekends again last year in July. But to sell out of everything so far in advance is amazing. We wish we could increase capacity for those that will be disappointed but unfortunately we can't. So when we go on sale for 2027 and say that tickets are running low, please don't leave it in the hope you can grab one. We offer payment plans that help spread the cost. We advise you to get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

We do read all of your comments (can't reply to them all - it's a bit hectic running a fest ya know!), and we are aware of bands that are out there. So when we see 'why haven't you booked ###XX band', there could be a bunch of reasons. It's very unlikely that we haven't tried, or don't want them. It can be down to whether the band want to do it, if touring / logistics allow it, if they've got exclusives with other festivals, if we can afford them, if we have plans to have them the following year etc etc. We will always pull together the best line up that we can based on what is available and what fits everyone's plans (ours / agents / bands etc). It's also worth bearing in mind that some 'requests' are unfortunately unrealistic for an indoor festival with the largest room being 3000 capacity. And some fee's being asked by some bands run in to the hundreds of thousands. So we have to balance if one band is worth knocking off 100 others. Our feeling is generally NO! The line up you see this year are bands that mean something to us and are still prepared to play a punk festival and that means the world to us.

So...... whilst we might be done with this years promotion as we're sold out, there is still a lot to come.
We've got our LITERARY STAGE to announce.
We will start showcasing the RIS & RIS LOUD WOMEN bands

AND.... Don't forget we are running 2 big shows in the run up:
TUES 4th - ADAM ANT / THE UNDERTONES / ALTERED IMAGES
WEDS 5th - NEVILLE STAPLE / ARTHUR KAY & THE ORIGINALS / DEATH OF GUITAR POP

Plus we will have a show on Monday night and 2 shows on Tuesday and Wednesday during the day at our new venue VIVA. Line up and details for those we hope to announce this week.

You can grab your tickets for the RUN UP shows here:
