I was going to add some heatwave tips for watering, but gardeners world magazine seems to have done it nicely for me....

Unfortunately Im unable to follow the last tip myself, as I grow all of the plants outdoors. Am smothered in sun lotion and bug spray... its so hot that all the cream slides onto the floor in seconds... but needs must. wide brim hat donned and plenty of rest and water breaks.

Hoping I can keep the plants in tip top looking healthy condition... even if i end up looking shrivelled up and totally bedraggled myself by the end of the week!

Worried that your garden is going to suffer heatwaves this summer? Follow these tips to protect your plants and keep your garden looking good in hot weather...

🌞 Water plants early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce water loss and help roots absorb moisture.

🌞 Aim your watering can at the base of plants, not the leaves, to avoid evaporation and make sure water reaches the roots.

🌞 Use collected rainwater, or reuse water from sinks, baths and showers to water your plants and save precious resources.

🌞 Pay extra attention to containers and hanging baskets, and move them into the shade if possible.

🌞 Create shade with garden fabric, parasols, curtains, or by grouping pots together to protect plants from direct sun.

🌞 Take care of yourself too: avoid working in the hottest part of the day, wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and enjoy your garden safely!

Sadly it has been confirmed by Ormskirk Makers Market that we are not allowed to have vans onto Moor or Aughton St to load and unload at the artisan market, despite them being allowed twice weekly at the town markets. Ormskirk Market Market This sadly means that the market under the current organisation is not feasible for me as stock is simply too heavy to carry from car parks. Im really sorry to all my customers who were looking forward to me being back. Im gutted. Please do contact me for deliveries and check out my facebook site for details of where i will be trading. Hopefully people will still support the other small businesses who are able to make it work... though from speaking to some of them, this decision will mean the market is not feasible for them either. Such decision made ( I believe) by the Council simply does not make sense.
