☕️📚🍰 Answering a handful of less frequently asked questions for you lovely people incase you wanted to know but didn't want to ask (these are genuinely asked or overheard by friends 😅)🍰📚☕️
What are you trying to achieve with the Book Nook? This is a hard question really. What I wanted to achieve initially was just a safe space for people to go as an alternative to the pub on the evenings...it's since grown more into a desire to build a community of people that love the things I love, books, coffee, cakes, games and all things crafty...I feel like it's working 💪
Why are your hours so weird & why aren't you open Sunday or Monday? Following on from the last one really, the hours are later to suit after school and after work. It's a little later Thursday and Friday because more people have Fridays and Saturdays off generally. Sunday and Monday has low footfall in the town and we have to have a couple of days off too 😅
Why are the cakes so expensive? Now, this one surprised me really because I can't find anywhere that they are much different but in short, all our bakes are locally and lovingly made, the bakers charge me based on ingredient costs and the time it takes them to prepare. I then have to mark up a little to make any profit and keep the business going 🍰
Are you going to rent out the new shelves to crafters? The honest answer, no, I will continue to rotate the ones used now when the slots become available but the new spaces I'd like to use for wholesale stock as generally the rent a shelf space doesn't make any money to the business sadly. This may change in the future ❤️
Just to tie that up, I'm sorry if I ever appear snappy and detached, I try to take to time to speak to everyone but sometimes its just not viable when it's busy (also, I do myself have anxiety and I do get a little overwhelmed sometimes 😅). Myself and the team are genuinely insanely grateful for every single person that comes into the shop, even if it's just to browse, it's another body thats found us :)
📚I know a few people tried to visit in our 2 days off and expressed their disappointment, I am sorry if you missed the notices for the temporary close, we try not to make a habit of it but we're still working on the work life balance thing 😅...and to be honest, it will happen again to make sure our team do have time to have solid breaks.
