Faberge style Cloisonné Cigarette Case

They knew how to do the simple things in style back in the day!
No identifying marks or hallmarks and with a enameled black interior; this beautiful piece has the look of the real thing but not the feel, hence the price is less than 1% of a real Faberge piece.
Cloisonné enamel is an ancient decorative metalwork technique where intricate designs are created by soldering thin metal wires onto a metal base to form small, partitioned compartments (cells). These individual cells are then filled with colored glass paste (enamel) and fired in a kiln.

Made in Glasgow in the 19th century by the Jewish manufacturers specifically for the Scottish Crofters who weren't cleared off their land!
Made from Pine and painted brown to mimic the more expensive mahogany furniture that was out of reach of those with long pockets and short arms.
Jewish furniture manufacturers and cabinetmakers in Glasgow were vital to the city's trade. Many operated out of the bustling Gorbals district and Sauchiehall Street, functioning as cabinetmakers, furniture brokers, and wholesalers

This stunning 16th Century Settle was a wedding present about 100 years after it was made, hence the carving on the centre of the top rail.

The date reflects the marriage, not when it was made.

Copeland (pattern 8332) Bone China c1850
£175 - £225 each
Each is cobalt blue ground and gilded decoration over, having 3 or 4 panels reserved in white with hand painted festoons of flowers in polychrome enamels, the centre also reserved in white with a gilded motif. The moulded outer rim in cream colour with added gilding and gilded edge.

A short sighted viewpoint; our response is always the same.
