The Malt Miller

The Malt Miller Supplier of quality malt, grains, hops and yeast to both the home brewer and micro brewery trade.

After reading an article about a chap who brewed 40 pints of beer with hops he had picked from the wild and some malt extract, I had to give brewing a go. The article pointed out that it was very cheap and rewarding to brew your own. Not being able to find wild hops in February I had to buy my own hops so popped to my local homebrew shop and came away with the hops, malt extract and yeast. Having

spent over £30.00, I was a little surprised at just how much those three items had cost me, however I brewed the beer which was a lot of fun and came out surprisingly well. I have been hooked ever since, but wanted to provide a cost effective way of sourcing and buying the ingredients, hence The Malt Miller was formed.

TIME FOR A BEER ANYONE? 🍻

The weekend has rolled around once again in what feels like NO time at all, but if like us you’ve had a cracking and busy week, then now is the time for a bit of downtime, getting a brew going and firing up the outdoor cooking facilities!

Now, this Sunday morning sees the final part of the casks life series land over on YouTube, but whilst this is the end of this three-part interdiction to all things cask - Stiffo has already been thinking about how he can get more content ready to solve a few of the questions that have come up along the way!

Also, be sure to keep one eye open on Sunday morning for our newsletter as there’s something fun in there for all the green-fingered home brewers that could be of real interest for you all!

Have a wonderful weekend brewers!

DID YOU KNOW COLLECTIONS ARE WELCOME? 🤗

Meet Alan, who popped in to discuss his options to get started with home brewing this week and left with quite a challenge on his hands...

Inspired by memories of his late father's passion for home brewing, Alan is just beginning his own home brewing journey. He spent some time with Nic from our customer service team talking through his plans, brewing equipment, the kind of beers he wants to brew and getting everything lined up for his first brew day…

By the time he left, he had a Grainfather G30 and all the bits and pieces needed to get started. Plus one of our Brew Day In A Box All Grain Recipe Kits…

The only problem?

Fitting it all into his beautiful MGA.

As you can see, with a bit of determination (and some impressive luggage-net engineering), he managed it!

If you'd rather collect your order, simply select Collection at checkout and we will give you a call once it’s ready!

And if you're looking at a new brewing system, upgrading your current setup, or just want to talk through your options with someone who knows the kit, drop us an email at
[email protected] and we'll arrange some dedicated time with a member of the team to help you take the next step on your brewing journey.

FATHER'S DAY IS THIS WEEKEND... 🎁

England kick off their World Cup campaign tomorrow.

Important? Absolutely.

The most important thing happening this week? Debatable...

If somebody asks what you'd like for Father's Day, let's be honest. Trying to explain why a stainless fermenter is different from the one you've already got, why you definitely need another sack of malt, or why a 4.5 Gallon Cask would look perfect in the spare room usually doesn't end well.

A Malt Miller Gift Voucher keeps things simple.

No guessing.
No awkward "that's great, thanks..." moments.
No socks.

Just the freedom to choose exactly what belongs in the brewery next.

Tag somebody who still hasn't sorted Father's Day yet... 👀

CASK LIFE EPISODE 2 IS NOW LIVE 🍺

After the incredible response to Episode 1, we're back with the next chapter in the journey from grain to cask (and glass)

This time we're diving into one of the most fascinating aspects of cask beer: conditioning & packaging.

What actually happens inside a cask once it's filled? Why is yeast still such a crucial part of the story? And what's the difference between carbonation and condition?

In Episode 2, we explore the living nature of cask beer, the art of natural conditioning, packaging methods, priming approaches and the role yeast continues to play long after primary fermentation has finished.

Because cask beer isn't simply beer in a different container. It's a process that continues right up until the moment the pint reaches your glass.

And if the response to Episode 1 is anything to go by, you might want to take a look at the cask equipment range while you're there... 🍻

Next up, we finally get to pull a pint.

CASK LIFE CONTINUES... 🍺

The response to Episode 1 has genuinely blown us away.

From handpumps and casks to cask breathers and accessories, so many of you have been taking the plunge into serving real ale at home that we’ve already had to get more stock on the way!

But this Sunday, we get to the bit that makes cask truly unique...

Conditioning.

Not carbonation.

Conditioning.

In Episode 2 of Cask Life, we’re diving into the living heart of cask beer. The role of yeast after fermentation has supposedly “finished”, how natural condition develops inside the cask itself, and why cask remains one of the few beer formats that continues to evolve right up until the moment it’s poured.

We’ll cover:

🍺 Priming vs packaging before final gravity
🍺 Carbonation vs condition
🍺 The role of yeast in flavour development
🍺 How to achieve the perfect level of natural condition
🍺 Why cask is so much more than simply a different container

WOW! CASK LIFE IS REAL! 🍻

We can't believe how popular Sunday's first episode of Cask Life has been!

It's clear this series has landed at just the right time. There's a huge amount of interest in cask brewing right now, so much so that we've already had to order extra stock of most of the equipment featured in the first video!

Anyway, moving on...

Yesterday we had a brilliant day filming the next two episodes in the series. Part 2 is in the edit today and will be dropping this Sunday. As you can see, we also had some fun filming the final episode, where we finally get to taste some beer from what might be the most authentic cask brewing experiment we've ever undertaken!

If you missed Part 1, be sure to check it out via the link below and catch up on all the equipment you'll need to keep a little slice of our brewing heritage alive from the comfort of your own home.

£149 WITH THE MOUNTING BOARD INCLUDED... THAT'S HARD TO IGNORE 👀🌾

If you've been thinking about adding a grain mill to the brewery, now might be the time.

The Grainfather Grain Mill is down to just £149, and that includes the mounting board too.

For brewers who enjoy being hands-on, it's a great way to add another level of control to brew day. Crush when you want, adjust your settings to suit your system, and enjoy the satisfaction of taking your grain from sack to mash tun entirely on your own terms.

And let's be honest... there's something deeply satisfying about milling your grain while the liquor is heating up.

At this price, it's one of the most affordable ways to add a genuinely useful piece of brewery kit to your setup.
