I Managed to tick off all my target fish, including the biggun in very quick succession:

And some cracking back up fish too!

Today I’ve been to my local (Sunderland Freshwater Angling Club ) for a little match. Drew peg 9 which was a spot Ryan had choose for us to fish. Set up a 6m line and two short lines near the reeds feeding maggots with Hinders Bait Tutti Frutti expander groundbait.

Aim today was tiny carp and silvers. Caught a few from the reed line then started having a good run on my 6m line and that’s what I’ve stuck with all day. Finished the day on 162 fish for 5lb which was second just behind Ryan who won with 5lb 15oz. Well done to everyone who turned up and a massive thank you to Ryan Rowley for running the match.

The floats I’ve used is Ian's Floats F1 carbon slims. The elastic I’ve used is Nytro Fishing 4-6 flex. This elastic was lovely having plenty of stretch on the strike.

Just the one from this weekend, the usual solid bags with crushed boilie fished over fishery pellet and a good amount of Nut 365 and Blitz boilies, no surprises that the fish fell to a betalin almond wafter.

*** Hall Lane – Merlin ***
Well… what a long 5 hours that was! Tried across, shallow, short and down the edge. The only thing I didn’t try was dynamite.

To say Merlin was fishing hard would be an understatement. 🙄 Eventually, the only way I could nick the odd fish was 16m tight to the island, fishing a Hinders Bait Nut 365 6mm pellet and gently swinging it up and down - because slapping and jigging is banned!

Scratched and scraped my way to 28lb, which somehow put me 2nd overall, with the match won with just 33lb!

Not exactly a red-letter day, but when it's that tough, you've just got to keep working and find a way of putting something in the net.
And looking at a few of the other weights…
Let’s just say some people’s 5 hours felt a lot longer than mine.

**45+ bites on the small lake**
After receiving some big hits from the large lake at Flaxlands, it was time for a change of scenery. The small lake at Flaxlands ( which I have manly fished during the winter ) was the lake of choice.

I started the day off using soaked Nut 365 2.3mm pellets packed into a small banjo feeder that I fishing tight to the reed line, however I found that I was constantly getting battered by small carp which were no more than a few ounces. So I decided to change my approach to fishing a pellet waggler set to 1ft in depth, which paired up with a Mini white Blackcurrant and Betalin wafter.

This change ment that the wafter (that I balanced with a size 12 hook) would fall slowly through the water. For the feed, I started off with 8.5mm nut 365 feed pellets. The fish had a strong reaction to the introduction of bait, however I found that they would scatter away from the swim when I stopped feeding. To combat this I scaled down my pellet size twice, firstly to a 6mm pellet and then eventually a 4mm pellet.

This allowed the pellet to fall slower through the water column, making sure I’m maximising my chances of the fish staying in the swim.

Drawing the session to a close in the early afternoon, I missed out of fishing in “prime time” which is around 4:30 pm. Although I still managed over 45 bites with most fish landed.

It was an amazing day spent on the bank, and now the small lake won’t just be an option for winter fishing for me.
Tight lines.

France for the week and what a great week it was, paired up with a good friend I managed a pb common myself and witnessed my partner in crime land a pb mirror as well as one of the other lads land a 57lb common. All of our fish were caught over a pellet and boilie combo of either Nut 365 or Blitz, the bulk of the fish were caught on betalin wafters with the plum coming out top but the almond and the blackcurrant tying for 2nd place.

The Blitz doing bits
Before heading off for a swim with the family I baited the spot with 4 catapult fulls of 12mm blitz and couldn’t wait to get back.

Getting the rods out at just before 6 I had 2 with in 30 mins and they were passing out the Blitz. Great start to the evening!

Another successful day session, I Landed 3 fish landed including these two lovely little mirrors, unfortunately lost one along the way. All fell for the trusty Hinders Betalin loaded Tigers.

I hadn't fished locally for 5 weeks with the weather being so warm and personal things to take care off.

It was good to return this week albeit to a very low river in need of some rain.
2 early morning sessions proved fruitful with a fish first cast on each occasion.
Plain elips glued to the hair with pva mesh bags working as always.

With another heatwave forecast next week I guess thats my lot again for a while.
Golf clubs dusted off again!
