Well, the actions of a few people got Roker Pier closed over the weekend due to anti social behaviour. Not sure why they didn’t just remove those people and let us ordinary folk enjoy it. Roker Pier re-opened today, so hopefully things will get back to normal.
Seaham North Pier has seen good numbers of mackerel taken on daylights and spinners, whilst dabs and dogfish have been taken bottom fishing. With the tides picking up and the good weather, the mackerel should return in better numbers.
The Old North Pier gave up mackerel over the weekend with bags of up to 15 fish. The odd herring has also been taken. Hopefully it won’t be long now until they move into the river in good numbers. Sabiki lures are best for the herring but please remember that they are tied on light mono so a 2oz lead is as heavy as you should go.
The rock marks at Marsden have seen the odd codling and some nice wrasse. The second gate is now fitted on South Shields Pier and I’ve been told the first gates are being opened between 7am and 8pm - if you know any different please let me know.
Boat anglers have taken good numbers of mackerel along with codling and wrasse . Boats fishing the wrecks have taken cod to 8lb along with good numbers of double figure ling. Pictured is a nice ling taken on Kelsey Leigh.
