Presenting The Tech Extension. A recently completed project based on the Crestron Electronics Home, Home Automation System. It involved the building of a new Master Suite with Make Up Area, Walk In Wardrobe and En-Suite. In addition, a new multi-purpose Garage was built as a Car Showroom, Gym and what will become a Cinema Room on the mezzanine floor. It's the perfect weather to be relaxing in the garden so why not bring your favourite tunes with you. Today we installed these very stylish Bowers & Wilkins AM1 outdoor box speakers. Featuring a lovely chrome detail to blend in with modern exteriors and a pivoting bracket to angle towards the listening area these sound as good as they look. Inside they have a 5inch driver, 1 inch tweeter and a passive radiator to enhance bass performance. It’s back to business as usual after spending last week out at the world’s biggest AV trade show Integrated Systems Europe This year we were treated to a new country Barcelona, glorious sunshine and amazing technology. Here are my top highlights from the show

It was lovely to actually be a part of the show this year with my amazing peers. CEDIA CEDIA EMEA hosted a live panel on all the hard work that has gone into developing the new CIT and IST certifications including the process of getting them ISO17024 accredited. Lots of insight shared by Amanda Beckner, Andy Baker, Pete Trauth & Alan Matthews

L-Acoustics Creations reveal and live demonstration of their new Soka speaker and SB6i subwoofer. We love the sonic signature of this brand but the existing line up wasn’t always suitable. The Soka and SB6i fill the gap in their line up offering unbelievable performance in a compact footprint better suited to residential projects.

Crestron demonstrated lots of new technology to enhance their Crestron Home, Home Automation platform. There were brand new battery powered blinds, the NAX multi-room audio amplifier, premium video distribution with NVX but the most interesting was their reveal of Circadian Rhythm lighting. They have a sensor that is mounted outside your home. This measures the colour temperature of light and changes the colour temperature of the lighting fixtures indoors to mimic daylight. All of this results in better health and wellness in the home. A topic we will no doubt see more of in the near future.

Sony Professional Europe launch two brand new home cinema projectors (XW5000 and XW7000) with a big jump in performance and a huge reduction in cost and physical size. The XW5000 comes in at £6K and offers a native 4K image with a laser light source resulting in a brighter picture. This will make stronger entry level cinema rooms more affordable for the masses.

Moovia launches Milano, a premium cinema seat that defies physics. Without taking up any additional space behind, this incredible piece of engineering can transform from a sofa to a daybed at the push of a button, clever and luxurious.

We've been busy designing and building bespoke Crestron Lighting Panels for our Northwood project. We started with an industry standard Future Automation panel and filled it with the brilliant WAGO - UK & Ireland series of screwless terminal blocks. This allowed us to colour code our connection types properly and ensure swift installation. We used colour coded heat resistant cable made for panel building and identification markers on all of our cables at both ends for easy maintenance. All RCBOs and terminals with screws were tightened to manufacturer recommended specifications for safety using a special torque screwdriver. All Wago blocks were labelled using their own specialist printer. When the panel is installed on site all cables from the home will slot in nicely down the left hand side. We care about all the details to ensure a perfect finish. This project has 3 lighting panels in total controlling a mixture of beautiful downlights, LED Tape and pendants.

The new Reference series of speakers from Origin Acoustics International and Crestron are a collaboration of great design. This is an 8inch speaker that fits inside a 6.5inch hole cut out resulting in bigger sound from a smaller footprint. High quality materials like a glass fiber cone and silk tweeter have been used to deliver a lovely sound Origin Acoustics

This fantastic modular design from Origin Acoustics allows us to accommodate to all budgets for ceiling speakers. In a pre-wire phase we run speaker cables and cut the speaker hole out, install a protective cover to meet building regulations and cover with a normal speaker grille. To any viewer it looks like a speaker has been installed. In reality the client has saved money in the short term and can choose from ~40 different 6.5inch or 8inch speakers made by Origin Acoustics International from their own range or collaborations with Bang & Olufsen or Crestron at all price points that will fit in this hole.
