When it is sooo hot that you realise you have nothing cool to wear, whip up a sun dress in three hours!
I used an old dress, bought years ago, as a pattern, and just made an adaptation for wider straps. It was a really quick make and I love it.

The fabric is Chroma Rose for Dashwood Studios, 100% rayon, so it’s a natural fibre, and with a floaty drape. We have some still in stock in the shop - people don’t realise how lovely it is until they see it made up.
I will be living in this for the next few days, washing it overnight and it will dry in minutes.

Here at The Corner Patch Co-operative we love natural fibres and try to stock as many as possible. Among our dressmaking fabrics you will find cotton, linen, rayon, ramie, tencel, bamboo and wool, and all with the ECO-mark so you can buy with confidence.

Check out our website or pop in to the shop.
The air-con is on in the workroom and there is a cooling breeze in The Arcade with all the doors open.
See you soon. Janet

It was the hottest day of the year - so far - today, and can you guess what the delivery driver brought to The Corner Patch?
Christmas Fabric!
It’s still under wraps for the moment but we are going to be busy sewing some samples over the next few weeks.
It’s getting to be my ‘new normal’ to set up my machine into the garden, in a shady spot, and be sewing Advent Calendars, stockings and other Christmas makes though the summer.
The fabrics will be officially launched in a few months, although the sharp eyed among you may spot them appearing in the online shop if you really can’t wait!

A really quick make today was this little edge to edge cardigan in a lacy stretch knit fabric.
With some warm weather forecast I thought this would be ideal as a light covering if the temperature drops in the evenings.
It only took a couple of hours to put together, with most of it sewn on the overlocker - just the hems finished with the sewing machine.
It’s adapted from the Megan long cardigan pattern from Tessuti which I made some time ago and have worn a lot.
This time I reduced the length to hip level.
The hem dips to a point at the side seams and it has a nice swing.
I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out and will be a perfect little extra layer in the garden while we make the most of the light evenings.

I spent a happy few hours over the past few days sewing up a sample of the Under the Sea panel as a small quilt.
This is a bright and colourful panel perfect as a little play mat or wall hanging for a child’s room, a bed quilt once they are old enough or a favourite snuggle quilt when listening to a story.
There is a matching panel which makes into a soft book and a mobile. Together, or separately, they would make such a lovely gift.
The large panel is just £15, with coordinating fabric for backing and binding at £17/ metre. The book and mobile panel is also £15.

Lots of delights in the Corner Patch this morning!
A customer has been in for binding fabric for this beautiful bear quilt.
Isn’t it a gorgeous way of showcasing some of our quilting fabrics. Joanne’s nephew is going to be a very lucky boy.

Then the delivery man dodged the torrential showers we are having this morning and dashed in with some big boxes.
These are all dressmaking fabrics.
The solid colours are a light weight wool/poly/viscose blend and actually have a slightly mottled colour. They have a lovely drape and are perfect for trousers, dresses and lightweight jackets.

The blue checkerboard is a cotton with 10% poly. It has an interesting texture and again would make lovely trousers, as well as other garments.

I love the colourful viscose/ linen fabric and am already planning a dress!

All are from Telio fabrics, will be so easy to sew, washable at 30C and 140cm (54 inches) wide. They will retail at £14/ metre and will be on the website asap.

Jewel tones, lagoon turquoise, twilight blues and unapologetically joyful florals — new cottons have arrived at The Corner Patch Cooperative and we’re slightly obsessed. 👀

✨ New in at The Corner Patch ✨

We’ve just unpacked these absolutely luminous new cottons — “Dragonflies” by Fiona Clarke, exclusively for Nutex.

Honestly, the colours are glorious in person… like captured light, oil slicks and dragonfly wings. The circle print is giving full twilight fairy lights through trees and we are slightly obsessed. 👀

Perfect for quilting, dressmaking, bags, cushions, joyful hoarding… you know the drill.
(Tape measure for scale because apparently self-control is important.)

Well my first Draft Your Own Perfect-Fit Bodice Block workshop is complete! ✂️😊

Today was a lovely mix of measuring, mapping, problem-solving, and learning — for all of us, I think. Watching people go from: “...this doesn’t look like a pattern” to “Ohhh, I get it now” was genuinely brilliant.

I’m already improving the worksheets and streamlining the delivery for next time, but I’m so grateful to this patient first group for trusting both the process and me.

One of the best parts of today was watching people realise: your body isn’t wrong — most commercial patterns are just drafted for different proportions.

Thank you all for such a lovely day 💛
