Carl measures every single stair.

Not just the flight, every...... Individual...... Step.

The tread depth, the rise height, the angle, when doing a stair runner everything matters. Whether they curve or kick out at the bottom or the top step is slightly wider than the rest, it all needs to be templated and measured correctly.

People think he's being obsessive ( I mean I think hes obsessed 😂) but apparently he's not!!

Stairs are never perfectly uniform because each step can be 2mm different from the last. Multiply that across 15 steps and your stair runner is off, its literaly that important.

Off means it bunches, bunches means it becomes a trip hazard and our moto is, we would never EVER create something we wouldnt put in our own home.

So yes.

Carl measures like his life depends on it, or more accurately, like your safety depends on it, which it absolutely does.

And according to Carl that is definitely not obsession..... i have to agree with him, but dont tell him that 😳

If you visit the Amerton Farm showroom, you'll meet Carl.

And if you mention binding tape? Clear your schedule.....

Carl has 200+ binding tape options on the wall, neutrals, bold colours, textures, patterns, the lot, and he LOVES showing people the options.

"Right, so this one's lovely BUT wait til you see THIS one"
"Now this would look gorgeous with that carpet"
"Ooh hang on, have you seen the new one that just came in?"

Forty-five minutes later you've:
- Seen every tape option
- Learned things you never knew you needed to know about binding
- Made the perfect choice
- Probably become bezzies with our Carl (its not hards he"s amazing)

Worth every minute though, Carl's NEVER wrong about tape choices.

Some jobs just stop you in your tracks when they're done. 😍

This is Rolling Hills Littondale Herringbone fitted throughout, with 9mm Tred underlay, new gripper, black door bars and black stair rods, and the binding tape is Stocksfield Hobart which if you look closely is where all that gorgeous colour comes from. Pink, orange, mustard and grey running along every single edge of that staircase against the white painted risers and the oak balustrade.

When Carl sent me these pictures through i HAD to share them...... like now 😍.

The herringbone weave carries through from the landing carpet right down the runner, and the way the Hobart tape frames every step is the kind of thing you notice even when you're not looking for it.

This one was a full team effort, fitted by Ant, Carl and Corey, and we are all very proud of it, we hope you love it to.

When the brief is a roll top bath, original Victorian fittings, and a floor that has to hold its own against all of it, you need something with a bit of character.

This is Aphrodite Belgravia Grey vinyl by fitted by Carl in a beautiful bathroom in Stone, and we think it's brought this bathroom to life ✨

The pattern matching around the shower base, the toilet, the bath feet and every corner of this room is exactly the kind of thing that looks effortless when it's done right and is anything but. Carl doesn't cut corners, quite literally, and this floor is the proof.

The before photos are in there too because the transformation deserves to be seen properly. What was underneath wasn't pretty but what came out the other side absolutely is.

There are two types of people.

Those who see stair runners and think yes, finally, exactly what my stairs needed.

And those who see stair runners and think they look a bit old fashioned.

Both are valid, we all have our own different tastes.

But id absolutely love to know which camp you're in.

🏡 Sometimes a little help goes a long way...

One of our lovely customers had already fallen in love with our Walnut vinyl, but wanted to visualise how it would sit alongside everything else she was pulling together for her staircase makeover. So we did what we do best and put together this little mood board for her! 🎨

She's considering our Camden Stripe (T33 01) and Kensington Weave (T33 02) binding tapes alongside a classic Hartley Braid (T14 01), paired with a stunning antique brass stair rod, we think it's going to look beautiful.

The natural jute swatches and underlay options round it all out nicely, giving her the full picture before any decisions are made.

This is my absolute favourite thing to do as Bestbind helping customer make a chose that they will be ahpoy with for years to come, no rushing, no guesswork, just making sure you're completely confident before we get started. 💛

Ever bought a carpet sample in the showroom and it looked completely different when you got it home?

The way light hits your flooring changes everything, showroom lighting, kitchen daylight, hallway shadows, outdoor natural light.

They all show your carpet or LVT differently and if you pick the wrong colour in the wrong light, you're stuck with it.

Thats why were different, we show you samples in different lights. Showroom lights, outside in natural daylight, and with white paper underneath so you can see the true colour without any tricks or background mess.

We come to your house, your hallway, your kitchen, your bedroom and we look at YOUR lighting. We hold the samples against YOUR walls and see how the light actually falls in YOUR space.

Because every home is different and what works in one persons home mught not work in another.

We want you to pick a colour you love in the light where you're actually going to live with it. Not a colour that looked good under showroom spotlights and looks completely different on your stairs at night.

Nine years ago Bestbind started in our garage.

One carpet binding machine, a van that had seen better days, two people who had absolutely no idea what they were doing but were completely convinced it could work.

We didn’t have a showroom, we didn’t have a team and we absolutely didn’t have much of a plan beyond “do good work and see what happens.”

Today we have two sites, Hixon Workshop and our Amerton Farm showroom. We have four fabulous people working with us who have grown eith us using proper systems, proper contracts, and a compliance process that would have bewildered 2017-us entirely.

People ask what the secret is.

There isn’t one.

What there is: nine years of showing up. Of doing the job right even when it would have been easier to do it quick. Of Carl measuring things seventeen times because precision matters and has always mattered. Of building a reputation in Staffordshire one job at a time, because word travels here and we knew it would, thats why we came, thats the Staffordshire way.

And of making mistakes, most definitely its what building a growing a business is all about, how would we learn otherwise, learning from them rather than pretending they didn’t happen.

We are not a perfect business but we are a good one, one we have built and know everything inside out, we always strive to be better and we are teaching that to the next generation.

I don’t know what year ten looks like yet. But I know we’ll still be here, still measuring properly, still caring more than is strictly efficient.

Here’s to the next ten. ❤️

Carl went on holiday for a week - our Sal was a little lonely in the showroom.

But his only bloomin back guys 🙌

One week, that's all it took. Carl Wildman (the showroom manager, not the one who measures things seventeen times) headed off on holiday last week and Sally was like "right, I'll hold the fort."Except holding the fort without Carl is like running the showroom with half the team.

You THINK you can do it, but something just feels off. By day three, Sally had rearranged all the rugs and reorganized the sample wall twice. By day five, she was sat in the corner of the showroom having a full conversation with thin air, assuming Carl would pop in any second to answer a customer question.

Then THIS happened, Carl walked back through the door and look at Sally. I've NEVER seen her smile that wide.

That's not just "my colleague's back" that's "my work besttie is HOME" energy.

Turns out Sally and Carl are the dream team, he's the showroom, she's the binder and backbone.

He knows where everything is, she knows what customers need before they ask. Together they're basically magic. A week without him? Apparently that's way too long.

Welcome back, Carl. Sally's missed you. (So have we, to be honest.)

LVT instalation - one job two different stories 👇

Carl went out to measure this job up, he spent AGES getting the layout right. (We're talking 20 minutes just planning where the first plank would go, this is normal for him.)

When it's done, every line flows through the room perfectly. No awkward cuts in doorways, no weird joins where you can see them.

This is LVT - Hard-wearing, easy-clean, looks brilliant.

Carl rang me halfway through the measure going "should I offset this by 10mm or 15mm?" and I said "Carl whatever makes it look best" and he went quiet for a bit then rang back going "15mm. Definitely 15mm."

He was right, obviously.

Then we've got Craig, our brilliant LVT fitter, fitting this job in Little Haywood.

Herringbone with a border and a feature strip, its not your standard straight laying. This takes proper skill to get the pattern right, the border to sit perfectly, and those feature strips to actually feature (not just sit there looking lost).

Craig nailed it in his usual carlm collective manner, no drama, no phone calls about whether it should be 10mm or 15mm, just got on with it and made it look brilliant.

This is what you get when someone takes the time to do it properly instead of rushing it.

Whether it's Carl measuring things obsessively or Craig getting the herringbone pattern spot on, the detail is in the planning and the ex*****on.
