😍🐓New chicken day 😍🐓

We’ve got some beautiful new laying hens from Hundred acre farm life 🥰 they have done a marvellous job of raising such healthy and tame chickens 💪
They are a mixture of Light Sussex (white ones) and gorgeous dark hybrids. They have moved into the mobile hut and aviary as a quarantine facility. In a few weeks time they will move in with the rest of the girls!

🪱To Worm or Not To Worm🪱

I took some moist warm handfuls of calf poo to work today (as you do 😜) to check if the calves needed worming.
In recent history, the UK has used worming drugs regularly and to great effect, reducing the number of worms feasting on animals and helping to maintain the health and efficiency of those animals.
However, there can be too much of a good thing…… resistance to worming drugs is becoming more common and some drugs can have significant impacts on other good aspects of the ecosystem (killing innocent bystander bugs and breaking the ecosystem chain).
So I like to regularly check if wormers are needed by looking for their eggs in poo. If there are no eggs and the animals have no other signs of parasitism, then there’s no need to use a wormer!
So today the microscope stage was bare of worm eggs 👍except for the odd cocci egg which is normal.
👍no need to use a wormer currently
