Happy drizzle day, my wee parched earthlings!
Firstly, congratulations! You've made it back to the start of the English apple season. Beautiful fresh sweet discoveries are back and we enjoy counting the year here in Apple cycles. Delighted that this year we only had about 3 crates of french apples to supplement. It feels a real achievement when the supermarkets have New Zealanders year round!
This time of year really is UK bounty in terms of harvest. We have the finest of everything. It is a great time to get stuck in with lettuces cut two days ago (rather than shuffling forwards for two weeks in the cold chain management of the big players). So much glorious English produce.
Highlights include big savoury leeks ,an abundance of rainbow carrots, tremendously squashful squash, insanely beautiful mixed aubergines and courgettes, bunches of succulent golden beers, unicorn horns of hispi cabbage, cucumbery cucumbers, curly c***o do Toro peppers, fresh as a pint fennel, pokey little jalapenos, tender stem broccoli sexy tomatoes, all hailing from these shores.
We also have some fun with European fruits, with nashi pears (a crisp when ripe but peary specialist variety), lychees, the prettiest pomegranates and kiwiberries all hanging around vying for your attention (kiwiberries are like kiwis with all the worst bits of a kiwi absent 🤣)
Also beautiful bunches of fragrant English lavender. Perfect for cooking or just having around to make life better
We also have insanely tasty pastries, a bakers dozen breads, and a tsunami of samosas.
