Supplying equipment to elite track cycling programmes involves far more than shipping components.

Frames, drivetrains, wheels and cockpit systems must be coordinated across multiple riders, disciplines and competition schedules.

Velodrome.Shop works with riders, teams and national programmes to simplify this process, ensuring the right equipment arrives when it is needed.

High Performance Equipment Support brings together specialist suppliers, technical knowledge and race-tested equipment to support elite track cycling programmes worldwide.

Modern track positions have moved on.

Riders are longer, lower and further forward. Handlebars have changed. Frames have become more specific. The space between the rider, the front wheel and the UCI rulebook has become tighter.

That creates a small but important problem.

The stem can no longer be treated as a generic fit item borrowed from road cycling.

A modern track stem needs to do more than add reach. It has to carry load, support aggressive positions, hold the front end securely and make the cockpit feel normal when the rider is fully committed.

That is why we designed the Velodrome.Shop Elite Track Stem.

Not to create the loudest-looking component on the bike. Not to make exaggerated wattage claims. But to solve a specific track cycling problem: long-reach positioning with strength, stiffness, clean shaping and confidence under load.

Our latest TrackCycling.org article explains the thinking behind the project, why length alone is not enough, and why a good stem should almost disappear once the rider trusts it.

Not every rider needs Olympic equipment. Every programme needs an equipment pathway.

It is entirely reasonable for junior and academy riders to use different equipment from established senior athletes. Frames and wheels are expensive, stock is limited and younger riders may still be growing or changing events.

The important question is whether those differences are deliberate.

When does federation equipment support begin? What should a development frame achieve? How far should coaches adapt a rider-owned bike before moving the athlete onto an NGB platform?

The answers affect more than equipment allocation.

A suitable stock of stems, handlebars and drivetrain components can keep rider-owned frames working for longer. Common standards allow parts to move more easily between riders and help a fixed budget support more of the pathway.

Equipment also affects what the programme thinks it knows. Times, power and results become harder to compare when one rider has a deliberate position and competitive equipment while another is restricted by the bike they happen to own.

The same thinking should apply to events. A senior rider may remain on their Olympic frame throughout the season, while more durable wheels are used at lower-priority or outdoor races to protect championship equipment.

Not every rider needs the same equipment, and not every race requires the best equipment available.

The programme should know why.

Cranksets in Track Cycling: The Overlooked Power Link

Aerodynamics and rolling resistance often steal the spotlight, but the crankset is one of the most critical - and underestimated - parts of your track bike.

From sprint torque transfer to pursuit pacing precision, crankset design affects:

Drivetrain stiffness and efficiency

Rider fit and biomechanics

Power meter integration

Ultimately - your lap speed

Our guide explores crank arm length, Q-factor, materials, and more - showing how this 'invisible engine room can deliver real performance gains.

Want to see what equipment Harrie Lavreysen, Hetty van de Wouw and the Netherlands Track Team use?

We've created a dedicated section of our website showcasing the exact equipment used by the world's top professional track cyclists.

From frames and wheels to chainrings, sprockets, and chains, most of this gear is available for you to purchase - so you can experience the same performance gains as the pros.

Look out for the UCI logo on our product photos. This highlights equipment that is either UCI approved and homologated for the Olympic Games, or has already been raced at UCI events by elite riders.

Track Cycling Chains: The Hidden Performance Driver

In track cycling, every watt counts - and your chain could be the biggest hidden loss in your drivetrain.

Chains operate under extreme loads:

1800-2500W peak in sprinting

High tension across every pedal stroke

Constant articulation around small-radius cogs

If each link doesn't move smoothly, watts are wasted. For sprinters and endurance riders alike, drivetrain efficiency can decide the difference between gold and silver.

Track cyclists should have a clearer voice in the decisions shaping their sport.

Today we are launching the Track Cyclists' Association (TCA), an independent rider consultation initiative designed to gather the views of competitive track cyclists and para track cyclists and turn them into useful evidence.

Track cycling already has rider representatives, athlete commissions and national federations. The TCA is not intended to replace any of those structures.

The aim is much simpler: ask a wider group of competitive riders what they actually think.

Our first rider survey is now open, responses are anonymous, results will be reported collectively, and the findings will be shared constructively with the UCI Track Cycling Commission and UCI Track and Para Track Cycling Rider Representatives.

If you are a current competitive track cyclist, we would really value your input.

If you work within track cycling, please share this with the riders you know.

https://www.trackcycling.org/tca.html

The more riders who contribute, the more useful the evidence becomes.

Foot security is not a detail when the effort is maximal.

In a standing start, gate effort or heavy sprint acceleration, the connection between shoe, pedal and rider has to feel settled. Any small movement at the pedal can change confidence very quickly.

Our Velodrome.Shop Track Cycling Sprint Straps are built for that specific job.

They use a low-profile design with durable woven webbing, hook-and-loop closure, metal buckle retention and reinforced mounting eyelets, giving riders a secure, compact strap system for proper track use.

No over-complication. No unnecessary bulk. Just a stronger, more planted feel when the torque comes on.

Best suited to:

Standing starts
Sprint training
Keirin preparation
Heavy gear efforts
Gym bike work
Rollers and warm-up routines
Riders who want a firmer pedal connection

A simple piece of equipment, but one that matters when the load is high.

CdA and Handlebar Selection in Track Cycling

Handlebars aren't just about control - they're a critical aerodynamic component.

Your bar choice directly influences:

Rider posture and aero tuck

Shoulder and arm width

Airflow around the torso

Leverage and control under load

Optimising handlebar design can reduce CdA and unlock real speed gains on the velodrome.
