Hints n Tips 2 - Plasters Of Paris
There are a number of different Plasters Of Paris POP brands out there on the market from Fine Plaster to Eco Resins. And it can be hard to figure out which Plaster is best to use!
I have personally used a number of POP brands over the years and each one give's a different finish after demoulding your pops. Each one has been trial and error and you might find one brand better than another.
Here are my personal preference -
MouldMaster for POP & Jesmonite For Eco Resin.
These are my go too for complete beginners
1. Fine Cast Plaster
When first starting out and you are just looking at making your own DIY Plaster Crafts for home use / or one off party favours- I would personally use Fine Cast Plaster - available from amazon uk or Mouldmaster website uk.
This plaster is great for beginners and the mixture is workable for around 15mins and sets within 30-40mins. The plaster is good for capturing all the fine details and at a great price too!
2. Once you have mastered working with fine cast plaster (it takes a few trial and errors believe me 😆)
Then I would personally work with Stoncast Plaster or Herculit Plaster - our personal favourite for Plaster Blanks / Party Favours. This is a more stronger type of Plaster with a faster working time. This plaster type heats up quickly and can be demoulded within 20-30mins . This plaster does come with a slightly higher price tag , which is why I would recommend using the cheaper POP to start off with.
3. Eco Resin- This is used with similar compound material as Stoncast powder making them both on the same equal parts for strength if mixed with water.
However Jesmonite brand are different as they sell their powder with an activator and once mixed together the plaster becomes stronger than stoncast .
These shapes will withstand chips / falls and are waterproof unlike POP material.
I would recommend AC100 - You have to work quickly, with a work time of 5-10mins and can be demould within 10-15mins .They do dry with an off white colour- which give's a great rustic look or can be mixed with paints. **No paid advertising or endorsement for mentioning certain brands .
