This is a first in recent times

I am actually racing tonight!!

Work and making haven’t got in the way. So it’s a night if fun and banter at Hot Dog Raceway for me, with the added attraction on Pie and Peas.

Cheers

Afternoon

The trails and tribulations of making an alloy banger frame continue but I feel it is now nearing the end.

Listening to racers they want the door plates low down the side of the body., but this requires a frame to come below the top deck.

What you see in these pictures is a 3D test print of a chassis mounted frame that will be adapted to mount to the top deck while still having the door plate mounts low down.

Think it’ll work, or at least hope. Long term think I can do a chassis mount frame without the need to have a stepped chassis like the DDB design.

Back on with the thinking hat and work out how to mount the battery and speedo in the remaining space.

Cheers
Shaun

This is something that’s been kick around my desk and it’s about ready to go for its first outing.

Is a steering arm that has a clevis instead of a flat for attaching the steering linkage

The idea is this will stop the twisting action of the standard mounting arrangement. It will also double the area that breaks so should in theory be a fair bit stronger.

The arm geometry has had to change a little to get the bolt clear of the wheel.

These are 3D printed and will be tested next outing I have at a banger race

Thanks
Shaun

Ps not sure if they are legal but I’ll not be competing as such.

What you are looking at here is a DDB 2L Chassis kit

First impressions are, impressed by the design and workmanship.

Will be having a dry run putting it together today.

One change I will be making though, is to use grade 10.9 black bolts where I can, it just a personnel preference.

The body for this kit is a custom job by Kamtec. Good to see a big manufacturer supporting new classes with specific products

This has been a long time in the making, It’s the DDR Rear pod. I’ve made them for a while now but getting the quality I want and volume has been difficult but with my new machines it is now possible.

This derivative is to suit the Kamtec Pro 1300. It’s will be available in dual mount or left or right hand motor mounts.

The pivot ball assembly is similar to the great one piece Kamtec rear pod. The pivot ball is not glued in and the feel of the pod can be adjusted using the nut to tighten down on the oring.

There is a 4mm spacer supplied with the pod which lowers the motor so it sits flush with the bottom of the chassis, depending on wheel diameter and ride height. The is as recess to allow a brushed motor to sit properly and the bearing housing is 4.5mm deep.

It will come with two o-ring holders one of them has a droop screw and 4 o-rings.

The colour schemes available are Red, Blue, Black, White, Green and White range of course.

The price is £35 for single side and £40 for a double sided, postage will be £5 due to value.

Bit of a long post but a lot of detail to get through.

Thanks
Shsun

Evening another little assembly I’ve been working on is a fully braced steering linkage setup.

The idea is to minimise the torsion load on the servo saver as much as possible. The servo brace with brass inserts I do is good but it still uses ball and cup ends. This assembly uses an aluminium retained ball joint. There is zero chance of the joint becoming detached.

To reduce the torsion on the servo saver there is a second plate that holds the bolt ends together and a nylon locking nut helping hold it all together, very robust.

The price for the assembly is £4.50 and the useual £2.50 postage.

Afternoon

Not much making or racing gone on this weekend due to visitors but got a few bits made already that I need to share.

The first is an updated banger top deck support arrangement. This is version 2, it’s been thickened up at critical points to make it even more robust. The picture shows version 1 in green for comparison.

It works with the standard Kamtec top deck with a couple of extra holes drilled, drilling template included. The top deck in the pictures is one of mine, I like orange.

The assembly is made from HDPE500 and is available in blue red black green white and yellow. All fixing bolts required are included.

To access the battery one bolt needs to removed and the side swings open, very tidy.

If you want to run a mechanical speedo a notch will be required to clear the servo mount nuts. I can put this in for you if you want.

These cost £9 due to the bulk they’ll be £5 to post.

Afternoon

Well got my Mini Mill working just fine now churning out drilled motor pod sides.

The next machine to be brought into operation is the CNC Lathe and Mill that’s sat along side. Needs some final assembly then the proper head scratching will begin.

I got the lathe so it can make drives like the K-Drive kamtec sell, to my own design though. The mill on the lathe wasn’t optional and I am not sure what I am going to do with it.

Back to work now

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Cheers
Shaun
