Great stuff!

Nottinghamshire! A wonderful map of the shire of 1086 with its Anglo Saxon places names. The Normans dropped the S from Snottingeham to give us plain old Nottingham.

Historic Sherwood Forest covered 100,000 acres stretching from the river Trent in the south some 30 miles up into north Nottinghamshire. It covered some 40 odd villages, towns and communities.

That’s the area marked in red.

The area marked in green is the much more modern Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve encompasses 1,000 acres surrounding the village of Edwinstowe.

It matters that so much of Nottinghamshire was in historic Sherwood Forest, villages, towns and communities. That history needs to be recorded and marked that why the Sheriff wants to see a green plaque in every community. Please support the appeal to buy the first plaque to get the ball rolling
