Juno Books

Juno Books Your friendly local intersectional feminist bookshop. Hello! Why Choose Us?

We are Rosie and Sarah, the co-founders of Juno Books, an independent feminist and q***r bookshop, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, opening mid 2022. Juno Books was born of our mutual love of literature, our passion for inclusive and intersectional feminism, and our desire to support a greater representation of women and marginalised voices in the world of books. We want to challenge and break

down stereotypes surrounding these groups in the literary space by stocking a carefully curated selection of literature and genres written predominantly by, for, or about women and other marginalised folk. We are particularly keen to raise up lesser known writers by bringing you the best that local and independent presses have to offer, and carry this work alongside more established writers, with whom we are all familiar. Our aim for Juno Books is to create a community of feminist booklovers and to offer a safe and welcoming place for our readers to discover their new favourite book. And if there is anything the past few years have taught us, it’s that we can’t underestimate the power of strong communities in helping us to explore identities, get curious about what’s important to us and to share these experiences with others. So passionate are we about bringing you the very best in contemporary literature that we only sell books that we, and trusted readers, have read and would recommend ourselves, so if you’ve lost your reading mojo, feel free to email us with your favourite genres and reads and we will happily recommend something for you to get you on your way again! Amazon (boo) might get your book to you (slightly) faster and cheaper than we will, but by supporting Juno Books, you support not only us, our families and our local communities, but also amplify the voices of lesser known writers and presses.

Last night we the pleasure of hosting in conversation with the wonderful about her new book, ‘The Othered Woman’, a hugely important exploration of the ways in which white feminism harms Muslim women, with our conversation ranging from how oppression shows up, to the murkier side of the publishing industry.

Grateful thanks to our lovely big audience for coming along, our neighbours for hosting us, and for such a thoughtful and thought provoking conversation and for organising.

We had a brilliant evening yesterday celebrating the launch of ‘Found in the Ground’ by Ellie and Lucy, in conversation with excellent fellow detectorist

We covered such ground (boom boom) as their introduction to detecting, the challenges of being women in such a male dominated hobby, their fave finds and how to get stuck into finding our own treasure.

Thanks for coming up to Sheffield Ellie and Lucy, to Lucy for being such a great host and to Harper Collins for organising. We sold out of books on the night but will have more next week!

We had a moving and inspiring evening last night in the warm and funny company of and ***rbooktakes at City of Sanctuary. Helene was over from Paris to talk about her book An Army of Lovers Cannot Fail, a clarion call for friendship, and the possibilities friendships can bring us both as individuals and as a society. Looking at intergenerational friendships, cross border friendships, q***r friendships and complicated friendships, an army of lovers is just the reminder we need of the importance of loving solidarity in difficult times. Also we all went to the pub and ate chip butties in a friendly manner after. Recommend. Signed copies in store.
