A few of the species hunters were crazy enough to brave the arctic conditions last night… lots of dogfish, a few whiting and a flounder were caught by myself throughout the evening, after the tide turned I managed to catch the target species, a fairly decent thornback ray, Anton fishing next to me had one straight after…. Two happy faces! 😁😁
Boy that was a chilly one, was glad to get home to a nice hot cuppa!!
Tight lines to all braving the elements… don’t forget your coat and long johns! 👌🎣

Little oddities pop up now and again and this spiky little sea scorpion took the bait from deal beach yesterday, haven’t caught a sea scorpion for a while so thought I’d share an image of it so other people can have a look, strange little fish growled at me whilst unhooking too, they really do make a vibrating little grumble! 🎣👌

Todays fishing adventure saw myself and Pete fishing samphire hoe on a quite sunny and calm morning, alas it didn’t last and it soon blew up blustery and got fairly nippy into the afternoon, the fishing was good with plenty of wrasse, blennys, po***ck and a lovely little topknot adding to my species hunt this year.
I was glad to have set the drag on my 100g scratching rod because if I hadn’t the wrasse pictured would have took my rod with it!
After an epic little battle Pete ambled it up the wall for a quick photo, what a lump!
Happy days fishing! On to the next adventure… tight lines all 🎣🎣

Trigger happy days!!
A long awaited weekender down the west coast ended up being an epic weekender to remember!!! The nightlife was pumping, live music with great company and lots of beer… 😊
During the days the fish were biting aplenty, I tallied up 5 fish on the annual species hunt list and knocked 2 fish off the ‘never caught before’ list.
The trigger fish really was the top fish of the weekend for me personally, I watched it nibbling at my crab baits with my knees wobbling with anticipation, it took 3 attempts with the fish disappearing and reappearing looking for my crab bait, 3rd time lucky he snaffled down the crab and I set the hook! 🎣
The nearby steps was the perfect landing spot and my mate Micky the perfect man for the job, cheers Micheal 😉 After a quick snap with my grinning mug he was returned and swam off strongly… the celebrations that evening have probably damaged my liver for ever but I’d do it all again in a heartbeat…. Tight lines to all anglers out there and anyone celebrating just remember to have a soft drink in between drinks… I recommend a WKD!! 🤣

Lots of new stock landed yesterday…. All ready for the summer holidays, great range of mainline baits to chose from and a top up on Korda rigs, pva products and end tackle for stocking up the box for them longer sessions, open daily 0930-4ish closed on Sunday.

Species fishing down in wales this week catching my first ever spotted ray!! 😁

Catching a couple more afterwards too, beating my PB small eyed ray and adding a huss to this years list made the drive down there worthwhile. Enjoying drinks with friends and fishing in the sunshine really cannot be underestimated in the benefits it can give your body and mind!

Cracking days fishing today down the coast, a few more fish off the species hunt list topped off by a fantastic fight on light tackle. 🎣
All fish returned to fight another day… sunburnt and hungry now, time to have dinner with mum!! ❤️

Congratulations to the species hunt winner of 2024 Carl Dobner. 🥳
Carl fished hard all year for a total species count of 41 fish over 15cm.
41 species is the new record tally for the annual hunt, let’s see what 2025 brings.
Well done mate, enjoy the winnings! 👍🏻🎣
