This is a question I was asked today while filming something with the BBC, and I thought new followers here might be interested.
What does Happybara’s “Let’s Grow Happy Futures” actually do? 🧡
At Happybara, we offer supported work experience for autistic and neurodivergent young adults aged 16–25.
Our placements are small, supportive and tailored to each individual. Young people work 1–1 with either myself or Wendy in a calm, understanding environment.
There’s no “one size fits all” approach. Placements are usually around 3 months, but the length is based entirely on the needs and confidence of the individual.
The aim isn’t just work experience — it’s helping young people grow in confidence and feel safe, valued and capable.
Skills we support include:✨ Building confidence and communication✨ Customer service skills✨ Shop display and merchandising✨ Till and basic IT skills✨ Barista and café skills✨ Understanding workplace health & safety✨ Working as part of a team✨ Preparing for future employment ✨preparing for interviews
For many young people, even walking through the door on day one is a huge achievement — and we never take that for granted.
We’re incredibly proud of every young person who spends time with us, and so grateful to our community for supporting a business that is helping grow happy futures 🧡
Do we receive funding for this? No.
As a social enterprise, we run the shop and sell our lovely items to make this work possible. We rely entirely on our customers, their belief in us and the love of Happybara.
Last year, we received match funding from Aviva to support additional work experience and employability training, and we’re always looking at new ways to grow what we do — so keep your eyes peeled for future events like our April cake sale!
Finally, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all the support we’ve receive it really is making a difference 🧡
