We’ve been a little quiet over the last few days — life has been rather busy behind the scenes. So yesterday, we decided a well-deserved day off was in order… although, as you’ll see, we didn’t stray very far from our love of all things vintage! 💚
Jones & Wells went to Burslem — following the story of Woods Ware.
What an absolutely magical day.
Our guided tour took us through the history of the Woods family, beginning all the way back in the 1600s and following three family lines through Burslem and its extraordinary pottery heritage.
Along the way we visited St John’s Church, where we were incredibly lucky to be allowed inside and see some rare Enoch Wood pieces, before continuing our journey to the site of the factory where that wonderfully familiar green tableware was once made… Woods Ware Beryl. 💚
But what made the day particularly special was hearing the stories from people with a genuine connection to the Woods name. There was even a little Woods shopping along the way — and perhaps one or two things may have found their way home with us! 😉
And then came the perfect ending.
We made our way to the beautiful Pavilion in Burslem Park for afternoon tea.
And, really, there could only have been one choice of china…
Afternoon tea served on Beryl. ☕💚
Sitting there drinking tea from those familiar green cups, after spending the day learning about the generations of people and pottery behind them, felt rather special.
For us, vintage has never simply been about old things.
It’s the people who made them, the places they came from, the lives they were part of and the stories they still have to tell.
And sometimes, taking a day away from Jones & Wells reminds us exactly why we started in the first place 💚
