The olives grown in Lazos Grove are of the Koroneiki variety, known for producing a good amount of high-quality, well-flavoured oil with excellent polyphenol levels (the stuff that makes olive oil so good for you). πŸ«’βœ¨

It takes about 4-5 kgs of Koroneiki olives to produce 1 litre of oil, although this can vary greatly depending on the processes used. We pick the olives quickly and cold press them, for example, which both reduce the amount of oil the olives produce πŸ‘Ž but maximise its quality, taste and overall goodness. πŸ₯³ Triple win!

There are about 200 olive trees in Lazos Grove 🌳, so each year it's a big family effort to ensure the olives are all handpicked and pressed efficiently to maximise quality and taste. πŸ˜‹

Here, Georgia directs, her son, Ilias, places the nets, and her father-in-law, also Ilias, collects the olives. πŸ«’ Long and tiring work but hugely rewarding, and in the most beautiful setting. 🏞️

πŸŒžπŸ‡¬πŸ‡· We've been in sunny Greece these past couple of weeks while the Lazos family have been hard at work picking this year's crop of olives - a slightly earlier harvest than usual due to a long, hot summer and October rain. πŸ«’πŸŒ³

We're pleased to share that the harvest is now complete, the olives have been sacked and cold-pressed, and our oil is already on its way to the shop! It doesn't come much fresher than that. πŸ˜‹βœ¨

Normal scheduling at the shop will resume from this coming Friday 28th. Open every Friday & Saturday, 10 - 4. See you then πŸ’–
