🔧 Workshop Tip: Black Brake Fluid Explained
If your brake fluid is coming out grey or black during a bleed, it’s usually caused by worn internal seals. DOT fluid, heat, and constant use gradually break down rubber O-rings and piston seals, contaminating the fluid with microscopic debris.
DOT fluid also absorbs moisture over time, leading to oxidation and further fluid degradation.
⚠️ Black fluid is often a sign that a simple bleed may not be enough—inspect seals and pistons, especially on older or heavily used brakes.
Regular fluid changes help keep your brakes performing at their best.
